Nominees have all been contacted, and judging is almost complete.

Finalists will be notified shortly, and will be invited to a prize-giving ceremony at Government House on Monday 9 May, the first day of National Volunteer Week.

Do you give time, unpaid to a sporting organisation?

We are currently doing some research on volunteers in the sporting organisation. If you have a few minutes to spare, please help out by completing this short survey by 31 March.

Our Submission to the Senate Inquiry into the Future of Australia’s Aged Care Sector Workforce

We have recently provided comment to the Senate Inquiry into the Future of Australia’s Aged Care Sector Workforce.

Volunteering plays a significant role in the aged care sector. However, we are  concerned that the Senate Inquiry has not referenced its importance within aged care. It is crucial that volunteering be at the forefront of any discussion about the challenges in the aged care sector.

Organisations will need to give equal consideration to planning and managing their volunteer workforce. We know this will be particularly important for Tasmania given its rapidly ageing population. The challenges facing the volunteer workforce in this sector must not be overlooked.

National Volunteer Week 2016 is soon approaching!

With the theme Give Happy, Live Happy, introduced in 2015, we continue in 2016 to celebrate and explore the research that shows volunteers live happier and healthier lives.

The Give Happy, Live Happy web portal has everything you need to celebrate volunteering including merchandise available for preorder and downloadable resources all aimed at acknowledging the hard work of volunteers and to encourage others to volunteer, so they too can Give Happy, Live Happy.

Do you need a Working with Children Check?

We are still receiving a large volume of enquiries regarding the Working with Children Checks.

The Depertment of Justice has created a handy tool to help you figure out if the checks apply to your organisation and role.

You can access the assessment tool here: Do you need to register? Find out if you need a Working with Children Registration

Please note: background checks do not just apply to new volunteers. If background checks are required for the role, they apply to all volunteers; whether they have been with your organisation for decades, or whether they have just started.

For more information about background checks, see our Fact Sheet, or the Department of Justice website.

National Volunteering Conference - 6-8 April 2016

Dr Thomas Nielsen is the final keynote speaker for this year's conference.

His address will leave you understanding why your role as a volunteer manager is key to creating meaningful happiness in peoples’ lives. Thomas advocates that giving to others, or volunteering, is key to solving the most pressing problems of our times.

As Thomas says:
“Engaging in generous and altruistic behaviour makes you want to be more generous and altruistic. Volunteering, health, and happiness together create a positive, reinforcing loop: the more you volunteer, the healthier you become, the more you want to volunteer. Volunteering is a true community builder in that sense.”

Register to see Thomas and other spectacular keynote speakers now.
