Should universities serve workplace needs?

“Open for Business.” It’s been one of the many slogans that Doug Ford has used since becoming premier of Ontario – and he’s not the only conservative-minded leader to use that catchphrase. Now he’s applying that term to the province’s post-secondary sector. Today in The Conversation Canada, we have an analysis by Dan Guadagnolo of the University of Wisconsin-Madison who says Ford’s government is following a policy that was tried in Wisconsin to tie university funding to the needs of businesses. People concerned about what’s happening in Ontario should read our story about the “Wisconsin Idea.”

That’s just one of several wonderful Wednesday reads we have on tap.

And finally…regardless of your religion or personal beliefs, I’m sure you’ve seen the artwork of Warner Sallman. Who? Matthew Robert Anderson of Concordia University gives a wonderful history of Sallman and his famous “Head of Christ” painting that has been reproduced millions of times.
