Declaring a Major deadline Thursday, March 1

With the March 1st deadline rapidly approaching for second semester sophomores to declare their majors, you may start hearing from your Advisees who need help finalizing their decisions. Here are a few tools you can use to help advise them:

  • Major Declaration Process by Department/Program
  • Academic Advising information on Dean of Studies' website
  • Declaring a Major process on the Registrar's website

Advisee with a registration problem or missed "Review Complete"

Last Friday, Jan. 26 was the deadline for students to make registration changes online in myBarnard/Student Planning and to have their schedule approved through the "Review Complete" process.

If you have Advisees who still need to make changes to their Spring 2018 courses, here's the process:

  • If Advisees need to add a discussion, lab, PE, dance technique, or Theatre Rehearsal and Performance, they need to pick up a form at the Registrar's Office, have it signed by the appropriate person(s) (as shown on the form) and then return it to the Registrar's Office. There is no late fee.
  • If Advisees need to change sections or change levels (Calc III instead of Calc II) of a course, they need to pick up a form at the Registrar's Office, have it signed by you and the professor of the NEW section, and then return it to the Registrar's Office. There is no fee.
  • If Advisees need to drop a course (deadline Feb. 20), they need to pick up the form from the Registrar's office, meet with you and have you sign the form, and then return it to the Registrar's Office.
  • If you have Advisees who would like to add a full academic course, they need to meet with their Class Dean to understand the petition process. If the petition is granted and they add a course, late fees will apply.

If you weren't able to meet with some of your Advisees and did not submit the "Review Complete," it's not too late.  Please meet as soon as possible with these Advisees, approve their final schedules and submit the "Review Complete."  Class Deans will soon be reaching out to students who missed this required step.
