![]() Happy New Year from your Community BoardMessage from the ChairWelcome to the first edition of our monthly Community Board newsletter for 2020. On behalf of the Coastal-Burwood Community Board, I hope you have all had safe and enjoyable holidays and are looking forward to what the year will bring. My Board and I will be getting out and about in the community and setting out some key priorities that we want to achieve over the next 12 months. We are delighted to be here and to serve you all. Meet the Coastal-Burwood teamFrom left to right, Phil Mauger, Linda Stewart, Kelly Barber, Jo Zervos, Bebe Frayle and James Daniels are representing the Coastal-Burwood community.'Water like you oughta’ this summerMost summers, the demand for water in Christchurch can double or even triple. That's why we're asking you to think carefully about how and when you use water, particularly outside - or in other words, 'water like you oughta'. This is so our water supply doesn't come under too much pressure. More time needed for New Brighton Clock TowerThe heritage clock tower requires more extensive repairs than originally planned. While working on the restoration, contractors found sections of the concrete to be in a worse condition than initial engineering investigations suggested. We're now expecting the clock tower to be fully restored by March 2020. Permanent alcohol ban for rugby league fieldsWe're proposing a new permanent alcohol ban for rugby league playing fields and adjoining areas, to minimise the potential for alcohol-related offensive behaviour, to protect public safety and to create a friendlier environment during games. Consultation closes 27 January. South New Brighton landscape plans approvedWork to reduce erosion is a step closer after the Community Board approved landscaping plans for a proposed bund from south of Bridge Street to the jetty. We need to remove some trees to construct the bund and once complete, we're planning to mass plant native vegetation and 270 new trees. Join the conversation about home-share accommodationChristchurch and Banks Peninsula residents are being asked to help shape a decision on the best option for managing home-share accommodation in our district.Immerse yourself in Christchurch's best summer readsFrom a best-selling debut novel packed with family angst to a wayward tale of tangled emotions to an epic crime novel, Christchurch City Libraries staff have found the ideal books for both home and away holidays.
