We have made it through the first half of the school year, and are onto a new calendar year which probably means finals and end of the semester tasks are upon you, and maybe you’re making some New Year's resolutions; I think that makes this the perfect time to introduce this months topic of GRIT! Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance | Angela Lee Duckworth From the Archives – Tom Heethuis, Adviser Liaison We made it to January and have flipped the calendar to 2020. This is the time of resolutions, semester exams and Regional Connect Conferences. When I was a student council advisor, January provided an opportunity to reflect on the year so far, and draft some plans and strategies for the remainder of the year. It was always important to remind student leaders that their job was only half done at this point. Finishing strong in the second semester lays a solid foundation for the next year and allows the seniors a chance to build on their legacy. 10 Actions to Increase your Happiness (by Jake Kelfer) When looking for fun resources that advisers could share with their student leaders, I came across this quick guide to improving one’s happiness. Use this guide as a fun way to kick off the new year with your student leaders! Have students make a point sheet and track how many they can complete each day! Whether you want to nominate for Adviser of the year or take on the challenge of being presented the prestigious “Award of Excellence”, our award program honors the work and passion of Michigan student programs. Applications to join the Michigan Student Board of Delegates are due March 13th! Take your leadership skills to the next level, working with student leaders all across the state. Student BOD members engage in promoting student opportunities, creating and facilitating leadership curriculum, designing new MASC/MAHS events and so much more!
