During Ivy 9 Day, Senior School prefects Jess X. and Sarissa C. led a workshop for students to help them start the year strong. They reintroduced students to the supports and services available at the School and gave advice on navigating the next few years. Introducing this Year's Artist-in-Residence
Welcome Devin Roth, our Artist-in-Residence this year! He is a Canadian composer and orchestrator, and has contributed to the music for a number of noteworthy films and television shows including: Guillermo del Toro’s Netflix series Trollhunters, Hotel Transylvania 2, The Book of Life, Crazy-Ex Girlfriend, and Emmy nominated Elf: Buddy’s Music Christmas (NBC). In collaboration with the music teachers at CHS, Devin and the team have created a number of exciting music-based projects that they hope will inspire students who wish to pursue their musical passions. He will also be sharing his compositional process from inspiration to completed score to help students realize their musical potential, and provide insight into creating music for film and television through hands-on tours of his composition studio.

Ecological Biology Trip to Bamfield
Students in Environmental Science 11 and AP Biology traveled to the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre on Vancouver Island this week to learn more about ecological biology. This included work to extend their knowledge of invertebrate animals, the biological and physical oceanography of Grappler Inlet, and the temperate rainforest ecology of the Pacific Northwest.

Students also went on trips in skiffs (flat bottomed boats) to complete oceanography data collection and look at bioluminescence, took a rainforest ecology walk, and went for a ride on the research vessel, the M/V Alta, to observe sea lion colonies and an ocean dredge.

Winter Bazaar Blitz Days Are Here!
Once again we kick off the Winter Bazaar season with our first round of Blitz Days, which begin on October 1 and 3. We kindly ask that you gather your gently-used items and bring them by for collection from 8:00 to 9:30 am at the Balaclava St. entrance. Check our schedule for more opportunities throughout the month to donate and see our donations list for guidelines on sharing. All proceeds from the Winter Bazaar will go to KidSafe Project, a local charity providing programming during school breaks for vulnerable children in the Vancouver area.

Introducing the 2018 Winter Bazaar Co-Chairs - Catherine Borritt and Margot Jagger

The Winter Bazaar has always been about more than fundraising, it’s about creating connections and coming together as a school community for a great cause. With that in mind, this year we have organized a number of new and exciting ways to get involved in the bazaar in the weeks leading up to the big day, November 17. From crafting parties, to jewellery workshops, to a school-wide Pancake Breakfast, there will be plenty of opportunities to get in on the action. Watch your inbox in the coming days and weeks for information on some of our new activities, and sign up to be part of something special. #iambazaar
