Introducing this Year's Artist-in-Residence
Welcome Devin Roth, our Artist-in-Residence this year! He is a Canadian composer and orchestrator, and has contributed to the music for a number of noteworthy films and television shows including: Guillermo del Toro’s Netflix series Trollhunters, Hotel Transylvania 2, The Book of Life, Crazy-Ex Girlfriend, and Emmy nominated Elf: Buddy’s Music Christmas (NBC). In collaboration with the music teachers at CHS, Devin and the team have created a number of exciting music-based projects that they hope will inspire students who wish to pursue their musical passions. He will also be sharing his compositional process from inspiration to completed score to help students realize their musical potential, and provide insight into creating music for film and television through hands-on tours of his composition studio.

Ecological Biology Trip to Bamfield
Students in Environmental Science 11 and AP Biology traveled to the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre on Vancouver Island this week to learn more about ecological biology. This included work to extend their knowledge of invertebrate animals, the biological and physical oceanography of Grappler Inlet, and the temperate rainforest ecology of the Pacific Northwest.
Students also went on trips in skiffs (flat bottomed boats) to complete oceanography data collection and look at bioluminescence, took a rainforest ecology walk, and went for a ride on the research vessel, the M/V Alta, to observe sea lion colonies and an ocean dredge.
