Dear FCMA Community, Last week, Governor Whitmer signed an Executive Order requiring all K-12 students to wear face coverings over the nose and mouth, effective October 5th. The Michigan Supreme Court ruled on Friday regarding Governor Whitmer’s authority to issue or renew executive orders relating to Covid-19 beyond April 30th. We understand that the recent Executive Order and the Court’s finding may cause some concern and confusion for our families. We share your concern and ask for your continued patience and support as our team seeks further guidance related to this past week’s developments. At this time we anticipate additional counsel from several sources early next week, and we are not planning to change any of the return to school plans until we receive additional guidance related to the Supreme Court’s findings. This means that we will continue business as usual per our Board approved return to school plans until definitive guidance is received. We will keep you posted as we receive additional information or guidance. Please know that we are committed to providing a safe learning environment for our school community and would like to thank our students who have been GREAT about wearing their masks. We have the utmost trust in our staff and students to continue supporting each other throughout the upcoming weeks and months. We ask that parents and family members coming on campus help us by wearing masks as well during this time. We appreciate your partnership and commitment to your child’s safety and education. Please note that I will be out of the office during the week of October 5th - October 9th. If you are in need of immediate assistance during this time please contact Sheri Folta at sherifolta@choiceschools.com. Peace & Be Well, Stacy M. Byrd Please continue to let Ms. Alex, in the attendance office, know if you are keeping your child home sick or if they are experiencing any COVID-19 related symptoms. We are working diligently to continue to monitor all wellness related information and continue to keep our school campus healthy. Canvas Update: On Friday, October 2nd, we were informed that the issue with Canvas should be resolved. Therefore, starting the week of October 12th, we hope to have classrooms begin to transition to this platform. We would like to express a big THANK YOU to our remote learners and their families for your patience and understanding as we worked to address these technical issues and during this transition to the learning management system. We are confident that each week will get easier to navigate for all. October 26th - 30th For this year's school photos we have chosen to go with Studio Eleven Eleven.
