Do you know the difference between “Islam” – a faith observed by 1.6 billion people – and “Islamism,” a political ideology?
Most media outlets treat them as interchangeable, reinforcing the perceived link between Islam and violence. But journalists have a duty to look past terrorists’ own justifications for their actions: merely repeating their religious claims is an ethical failure.
