The Twin Scapes Pinhole Photography: Hideharu Matsuhisa

the twin scapes pinhole
photography: hideharu matsuhisa

The Twin Scapes is a photographic response to the overwhelming wave of digital technology sweeping the globe. Through a fascination of pinhole photography as the most basic means of producing an image directly onto paper, without lens or film, Japan and Australia are featured through the eyes of a Japanese photographer using natural light at its highest and lowest levels resulting in an intense play on shadows and shade to depict differences in history, culture and sensitivities.

Painting Survey of the
Shipwreck Cherry Venture

13 April–22 May 2011

Contemporary painter Stephen Phibbs pays tribute to the once iconic and now dismantled shipwreck Cherry Venture, which ran aground on Teewah Beach in southeast Queensland in 1974. Presenting an extended survey of paintings of the wreck from various perspectives, the exhibition explores the artist's experimental and creative journey as he documents the changing wreck that has fascinated him for many years.

entries now open!

Entries Close: 31 March 2011
Medium: Any 2D

Prize: $15,000 + Maleny Residency

The Sunshine Coast Art Prize is entering its sixth consecutive year. Each year the prize has become more sought after and prestigious, earning national acclaim for its annual representation of contemporary Australian art. As with previous years forty finalists will be selected to exhibit. As well as the substantial incentive of a $15,000 cash prize, a four-week residency in the Sunshine Coast hinterland is included in the prize. The residency is an important component of the prize as it not only provides a fantastic opportunity to work in a unique environment but also offers the Sunshine Coast community an insight into the artist’s work. This year the prize is fortunate to have New York and Sydney based curator Maura Reilly as its judge.
