Imagine if a violent criminal had the key to your front door
St Mungo’s Rebuilding Shattered Lives campaign launches new theme – domestic abuse and sexual violence.
Thank you to those who have joined up and contributed to our campaign and the success of its launch and first theme.
We are now exploring the second of the nine campaign themes. This focuses on domestic abuse and sexual violence of women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
More than a third of St Mungo’s female clients who have slept rough tell us that their experience of domestic violence directly led to their homelessness.
Shockingly, it is estimated that 230 women a day are being turned away from refuges.
Help us raise awareness and drive change
Become a member and showcase your best practice, experiences and innovations about how best to prevent women’s homelessness and support their recovery.
We particularly want to hear about:
- Access to refuges/appropriate accommodation for women with complex needs fleeing domestic or sexual abuse
- Services which prevent homelessness for domestic and sexual violence victims
- Multi agency working for homeless women experiencing domestic abuse and sexual violence and exploitation
- Services for women with no recourse to public funds
- Services which support women who have been affected by violence, for example when rough sleeping
This theme is led by Expert Group member Davina James-Hanman, Director of Against Violence and Abuse.
You can read more about the issues on Davina’s blog and hear from her directly about the campaign in a short video.
We would welcome your contributions by 31 October.
Thanks for your support,
The Rebuilding Shattered Lives Team
