Welcome to the March newsletter

Dear

A warm welcome to our March newsletter.

Earlier this month Professor Charles Egbu shared a statement on behalf of Leeds Trinity University about the situation in Ukraine. Our thoughts and prayers are very much with the people of Ukraine and their families and friends. We stand in solidarity with all those affected. Read the statement.

March began with us welcoming alumnus Ryan Needham (Media, 2011) back to campus. Ryan is the bassist in Leeds rock band Yard Act, who recently reached no 2 in the UK album charts.

Ryan returned to campus in Horsforth before heading out on tour to America, Canada and Europe. We were delighted to conduct an interview with him in the TV studio, finding out more about his time at Leeds Trinity and how he has found the meteoric rise of Yard Act. Find out more.

Watch the full interview with Ryan, on our YouTube channel.

Journalism success

Congratulations to alumna Abbey Maclure (MA Journalism, 2019) who won Trainee of the Year at the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) Awards for Excellence.

Immy Share (MA Journalism, 2020) was also commended in the Podcast Journalism category for her podcast on online abuse, which highlights the serious issue of trolling on social media. Read more.

Students' Union Awards Dinner 2022

The Alumni Office was proud to sponsor a table at the 2022 Students' Union Awards Dinner that took place at the Marriott Hotel in Leeds earlier this month.

The event celebrated the volunteer achievements from our Societies, Sports, Course Reps, Student Council, Student Athletes and the wider student body.

Visit the Students' Union Facebook page for more images.

Nostalgia

Before heading off to the Awards Dinner, we were delighted to show former member of staff Dan Baldasera the TASC running top he gave us, which we had framed.

Dan is one of the original staff members from 1966. He is pictured alongside alumna Jane Tesseyman (Home Economics, 1992).

Varsity success for Leeds Trinity

We are very proud of all the student clubs that participated in the varsity matches against York St John on Wednesday 16 March.

Many congratulations to Leeds Trinity who were overall winners.

"I learned creative media at University and now this is my business. Whilst we do all sorts of creative media, my favourite by far is the corporate films we produce."
