CPC Brooklyn Older Adult Center Shines on 'Good Day New York' On October 15th, CPC Brooklyn Older Adult Center was featured live on FOX 5's Good Day New York, highlighting their preparation for the grand finale of the Department of the Aging's 'Talent is Timeless' Competition. Steve Mei, Director of CPC Brooklyn Community Services, and Helen Chen, Director of the Brooklyn Older Adult Center, appeared alongside members of the Xinjiang Dance Team. Steve shared CPC’s wide range of community services and the vibrant cultural, wellness, and benefits-support programs offered.at our older adult centers. CPC Scales Up Food Distribution Efforts Amid SNAP Uncertainty During Government Shutdown On October 31st, Steve Mei, Director of CPC Brooklyn Community Services, was interviewed by FOX 5 NY about how CPC is ramping up food distribution to serve hundreds of families. This effort comes in response to the ongoing federal government shutdown, which continues to disrupt SNAP benefits. CPC Brooklyn Harvest Moon Benefit Honors Leaders and Raises Funds to Support Community Programs On October 23rd, CPC hosted our Brooklyn Harvest Moon Benefit and honored three outstanding community leaders. The gala raised funds for CPC's Brooklyn initiatives, which positively impact over 20,000 Brooklyn residents. The honorees are Justin Brannan, Council Member for District 47; Chau Trinh-Shevrin, DrPH, Director of the Division of Health and Behavior at NYU Langone; and Arnold Gottlieb, Assistant Principal at Franklin D. Roosevelt High School. Flagstar Foundation Awards $50,000 Grant for CPC to Expand Tech Training Program On October 30th, CPC received a $50,000 grant from the Flagstar Foundation to expand our Technology Exploration & Skills Training (TEST) program. CPC TEST is a collaborative effort with the IBM SkillsBuild platform, designed to provide community members with mentorship and tech training, along with certificates and digital credentials in Data Science, Cybersecurity, and Cloud Computing. The grant will help strengthen programming and expand our reach.
Carlyn Cowen Honored for Advocacy Work Across New York City On October 18th, Carlyn Cowen, CPC's Chief Policy and Public Affairs Officer, was recognized for their impactful policy and advocacy work at the 3rd Annual Filipino American History Month Celebration and Resource Fair in Elmhurst. Carlyn was celebrated for advancing health care access, securing essential human services funding, and championing social justice. These essential efforts have benefited communities across New York City. Older Adults from Nan Shan OAC Cruise the Hudson and Enjoy the Fall Foliage On October 10th, CPC Nan Shan Older Adult Center (OAC) organized a day trip to upstate New York for a group of 56 community members. The itinerary featured a boat cruise along the Hudson River to admire the fall foliage, apple picking at a local orchard, and a buffet lunch that allowed everyone to socialize and share stories.
CPC and Partners Unite for Sunset Park Community Block Party On October 4th, CPC co-hosted a community block party in Sunset Park with Harvest Share and local partners. Centered on the theme of "Fostering Community Resilience," the event welcomed all residents with a resource fair, food giveaways, family-friendly face painting, and cultural performances—including a special dance showcase from our Brooklyn Older Adult Center. We engage with individuals to plan and develop their career paths because professional success is critical for economic independence.
CPC and EmblemHealth Distribute Food to Hundreds of Families On October 18th, CPC partnered with EmblemHealth for a food distribution event in Flushing, Queens. This marked the duo's third food distribution collaboration, following previous distributions in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Through EmblemHealth's support, CPC provided over 500 bags of fresh and healthy produce to community members. The event, however, was about more than just supplying food. It was about showing up for our neighbors, creating healthier choices, and reinforcing the idea of collective care.
CPC Celebrates 60th Anniversary with Benefit Recital at Carnegie Hall On October 3rd, CPC continued its 60th Anniversary celebration with an evening of music and community at the Mother and Son Two-Piano Benefit Recital at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall. The recital, featuring acclaimed pianists Michelle Chen Kuo and Christopher Kuo, transported audiences through a repertoire of Romantic-era masterpieces. Nearly 500 guests filled the hall for the full house performance, which raised nearly $120,000 in support of CPC’s mission to empower Chinese American, immigrant, and low-income families across New York City.
