Celebrating Oregon's Volunteers

Volunteers inspire us by lending their time, passions and skills to make a difference in their communities. Join us this month in celebrating the power of Oregon’s volunteers to tackle Oregon’s greatest challenges, build stronger communities and transform the state for the better.

Questions to Ask Yourself Before You Volunteer

Giving your time and talent to a cause is a great way to connect with your community. Our 2018 TOP Report: Oregonians Mobilizing for Change illustrated how organizations and groups can engage people in their work. Just as important is knowing how you want to contribute and in what way. If you’re thinking about volunteering, ask yourself these questions before you sign up to make sure it’s a good match:

  1. What do I hope to give and get from this experience?
  2. What tasks or roles am I energized to take on?
  3. What am I not willing to do?
  4. What is the ongoing time commitment?
  5. What do I need from the organization to fulfill my role?
  6. Do I have the flexibility in other parts of my life to make this commitment?
