Bold, bright and always inspiring, Sydney doesn’t hibernate, it innovates – as you’ll see at 6pm today when its Lights On for Vivid Sydney 2024, and the city reveals its true, spectacular colours with a series of landmark events and installations until June 15.

Flick the switch on your inspiration as a kaleidoscope of colourful Light, Music, Ideas and Food performances, get-togethers and artworks illuminate the theme, ‘Humanity’, to ignite a deeper sense of community and connection.

With so many options to see, taste and move you over 23 nights, now’s the time to compile your own hitlist of must-dos, starting with an impressive collection of special events. Explore the power of sport as the Matildas’ Mackenzie Arnold and Tony Gustavsson lead the Champions of Change; discover Lightscape’s glowing wonderland at the Royal Botanic Garden, and take your seat at an exclusive table at Vivid Chef Series.

A citywide feast for the senses continues wherever you venture – as you’ll see in the Vivid Sydney Guides. In Darling Harbour, marvel at the jaw-dropping installations along the Vivid Sydney Light Walk, dig in at the Vivid Fire Kitchen and dance with the family at Tumbalong Nights. The annual celebration of creativity, innovation and technology is back from Friday 24 May to Saturday 15 June this year. Dark Spectrum: A New Journey | 24 May – 15 June 
An electronic labyrinth of light, colour and sound will pulse to life when Dark Spectrum: A New Journey reawakens deep beneath the streets of Sydney from 24 May to 15 June as part of Vivid Sydney 2024. Last year, this subterranean experience first captivated visitors and the all-new immersive experience for 2024, invites visitors to revel in state-of-the-art lighting, laser and video effects unlike anything you’ve seen before. Vivid Ideas: Champions of Change: Mackenzie Arnold and Tony Gustavsson | 10 June 
Grace Gill, Matildas alumni and journalist, will moderate an inspiring conversation as part of Vivid Ideas with CommBank Matildas’ Mackenzie Arnold and head coach Tony Gustavsson. The chat will explore the dynamic between coach and athlete and offer an in-depth look at the pressures and achievements encountered and their individual journeys in women’s football. Tekno Train by Paul Mac | 24 May – 15 June 
Bring new meaning to “it’s the journey not the destination” with a trip like no other. All aboard this immersive sound experience, as an everyday commuter train morphs into an extraordinary ride. Sydney Film Festival | 5 – 16 June
From 5–16 June 2024, Sydney will come alive with 200+ movies screening at the 71st Sydney Film Festival. Sydney Film Festival takes place at its flagship venue the State Theatre, as well as cinemas in the CBD, Newtown, Cremorne, Randwick, and more, screening films you won’t usually find in the multiplex. 12 films are selected for the Official Competition, which celebrates “courageous, audacious and cutting-edge” cinema with a $60,000 cash prize. In 2024, Sydney Film Festival will turn 71. Experience big feels with extraordinary cinema, red carpets, talks and parties with filmmakers all across Sydney including the iconic State Theatre this 5–16 June 2024. Alphonse Mucha: Spirit of Art Nouveau | 15 June – 22 September
A major winter blockbuster exhibition on the life and work of one of art’s great stylistic innovators, Alphonse Mucha, leads the Art Gallery of New South Wales 2024 exhibition program. National Indigenous Art Fair | 29 – 30 June
Indigenous artists from around Australia are set to come together in June for the fifth National Indigenous Art Fair taking place on Gadigal Land in The Rocks, Sydney, at the Overseas Passenger Terminal.
