Twitter are making changes to their web service this month which will affect the live feed on your site.  Any sites using version 1 of their API will be depreciated by Twitter.

What does this mean to me?
Your site will default to not being able to pull in any feeds.  Technically Twitter will return a ‘410 not found’, but for users viewing your site it will fall back to display ‘loading feed...’ or any empty space indefinitely, if Coal/Face didn’t make any amends to your website address.

We have invested some time in the recent weeks to preparing for these changes for our customers.  Due to Twitter being an external third party service we are asking our clients to kindly cover the cost implications of updating their website to use the new API.  This will be at the rate of 1 hour (£50 + VAT). 

If you do not wish to pay for this upgrade to your Twitter service on your site we will remove any feeds on the site.  This will require us to make an amend to your site at cost to ourselves regardless, as we do not wish any sites to show remnants of the feed if it will not work.  These changes are not something we at Coal/Face have any control over, but something that Twitter has forced upon us and every other developer who has embedded a twitter feed on their site.

A free alternative can be found at https://dev.twitter.com/docs/embedded-timelines.  However this option does not accommodate many of our client’s sites and we feel this in many cases is very intrusive in terms of design.  If you do wish to go down this route please let us know and we will be happy to discuss implementing this option.
