Introducing Don Nightingale

Header

We're excited to introduce Don Nightingale as our new Software Tester. He has extensive IT experience and has tested software for over a decade.

First he tested the McDonald's point of a sale system. This seemingly innocuous cash register application is actually used to unify every staff member into a cohesive team capable of whipping out $20,000 worth of food per hour.

Critical application? Absolutely. Tax ramifications when the numbers are off? Huge.

Next he worked for eWater, a government-owned not-for-profit organisation that uses highly sophisticated automated test systems to allocate water resources. Don's diligent work on the testing system ensured that the Murray Darling Basin Authority was able to precisely allocate water to states, farmers, sporting facilities, drinking water reservoirs, and the environment.

With such incredible experiences under his belt, we are sure he will do a great job in his new role.

Welcome Don!

ENDUROCADD® Basics Training

Header

We are holding our ENDUROCADD® Basics Training course over three days from 19th-21st November.

During the first two days of the course you will learn everything you need to know to detail your first single storey house including:

  • Understanding of the ENDUROFRAME® Building System for the design and construction of light gauge cold formed steel framed buildings
  • Installing and navigating the ENDUROCADD® software
  • Costing jobs
  • Creating levels
  • Inserting walls
  • Building roof shapes
  • Inserting openings
  • Setting up roof components
  • Detailing wall components.

On the final day we will help you work with your own plans in the ENDUROCADD® software, so you can quickly get used to using the software the way you want.

For more information including a link to sign up for the course, see ENDUROCADD® Basics Training.

Prerequisites

To ensure everyone gets the most out of this course we will require attendees to complete a basic preparation test before they are eligible to attend.

Simply read the preparation topics and take the test. Also, don't worry if you don't pass on your first go. You can take the test as many times as you like.

See ENDUROCADD® Basics preparation test.

Wind beams

Header

Wind beams are used in two-storey construction to support walls that span two levels without using floor joists.

Using the new Wind beams section of the ENDUROFLOOR® Design Manual you can design walls between 5.4 and 6.0 metres high that are internally supported by wind beams spanning joist voids up to 4.8 metres wide.

Only wind regions N1 and N2 are supported and return walls must be installed at each end of the wind beam to transfer loads to the ground. Any configurations outside the parameters in the document below should be designed and certified by a qualified engineer.

See Wind beams.

Header and sill lateral restraints

Header

Strong wind loads and wide openings can put walls under significant stress.

Using the new Header and Sill Lateral Restraints section of the ENDUROWALL Design manuals you can design openings that resist these forces using additional header and sill members.

These members are used in addition to any lintels, trussed heads or sills designed to resist vertical loads. For:

Roof construction (old) functions to be removed

Lastly, we are removing the Roof components (old) menu and the accompanying Roof construction (old) window of the Job data menu.

You can access all required Roof construction settings and functions using the Roof construction (new) menu and the Roof construction (new) window of the Job data menu.
