 January 2012Forward to a friend   Visit our website   Contact us

Dear eNews Member,

Welcome to 2012. We hope the holiday spirit is still lingering as January draws to a close.

Here at Arts Vic, fuelled by too many holiday treats, we’ve hit the ground running. This issue includes the latest funding announcements from our Arts Development and Touring Victoria programs, the shortlist announcement for the 2012 Victorian Indigenous Art Awards and details about upcoming information sessions on our music grants program and the review we’re undertaking into our Organisations program.

We’re not sure what the collective noun for ‘funding opportunity’ is (a ‘wealth’ perhaps?), but regardless, there are plenty worth checking out this month.

And if you’re looking for some inspiration this summer, we’ve got five arts tips to keep the holiday spirit alive.

  Vale

This month the arts sector lost two great talents, Judith Cobb and Avril Everingham.

Judith was a highly respected visual artist, set and costume designer and teacher. She worked over many years with the likes of Malthouse (formerly Playbox) Theatre, Melbourne Theatre Company and the VCA.

Avril was a fundraiser and event manager extraordinaire, unceasing in her efforts on behalf of the former Victorian State Opera and the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition (currently Chamber Music Australia) to name but two of the organisations with which she was closely associated.

Arts Victoria would like to express our condolences to Judith's and Avril's partners, friends, family and the many people they touched throughout their lives.

  Have your say – Community consultation on Australian Charity Regulator

In 2001, the Federal Government announced funding for the establishment of the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission (ACNC), a commission that will:

  • determine and regulate charities;
  • promote good governance;
  • ensure compliance with charitable laws; and
  • provide education for the sector.

As a first step, the ACNC Taskforce was established to engage with the sector and to define how the Commission will operate. The Taskforce is holding a series of public meetings across Australia to gain insights and views on the design and implementation of this regulator.

The Victorian forum will be held in Melbourne on Tuesday 7 February 2012 from 5-7pm. The free session is an opportunity for not-for-profit groups to raise issues relating to the new reporting framework, the ACNC public information portal and the ACNC’s educative role.

Demand for these sessions is high so bookings are essential.
