It’s a great way to tell God that we love him and about our desire to give him everything. But how do we show our children that worship goes deeper, that it is about giving God all we are and have? This month we’re thinking about ways to engage our children in worship – through music, but also thinking about ways they can worship in the ordinary parts of life. Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship. Romans 12:1 Ideas this monthThank you Try getting each person in your family to say three thank yous every day for a week. You and your children will be amazed at how much you have to worship God for! Whole life worship ReflectionTalking about worship with our children is an opportunity to show how a relationship with God affects every part of our lives. It’s so easy to compartmentalise all the different things we do – working, having fun and the ‘spiritual’ stuff. But actually our worship is offering all those things to God, to bring him glory, and we can tell our children about that! You could tell them about the gifts that God has given you and how you use them in your work or as you help them with homework. Perhaps you could pray together at the beginning of the day, asking God for opportunities to show his love to people during the day. Then when you see each other at the end of the day look back to see what you were able to do in response. If you are a household who loves music, then having worship music playing is also a great way to fill our homes with worship. Worship leaders Keith and Kristyn Getty talk about how they use songs to reflect as a family: “We use the lyrics to explain key spiritual ideas to them. We may not get through the whole hymn, but we come back to them in everyday life and throughout the year and have watched their love and understanding grow with time.” Take some time this month to remind yourself, and show your family, what living a life of worship might look like.
