Measles - What Do you Need to Know?

The University has learned that one of its students has been confirmed to have measles. This student is following protocol and is recovering at an isolated location off campus.

It is important that staff and students are aware of what to do should they exhibit symptoms of measles. As indicated in campus-wide messaging last week, students, staff and faculty who experience symptoms of measles (fever, cough, runny nose or red eyes, and a red blotchy rash that appears three to seven days after fever starts) are encouraged to isolate themselves immediately.

If you become ill with a fever, STAY AT HOME AND AVOID CONTACT WITH OTHERS! Call Health Link Alberta before getting medical care at any Lethbridge clinic or going to the hospital.

To speak to a Health Link Alberta nurse, call 1-866-408-LINK (5465).

For more information on measles, including symptoms, diagnosis and treatment, follow this link.

Student nurses finding that there's an app for them

A research project underway at Chinook Regional Hospital aims to determine if having medical information at the fingertips of student nurses improves their clinical decision-making at patient bedside.

During the 15-month study, which started last May, about 30 fourth-year nursing students from the University of Lethbridge will have an application installed on their mobile phones that contains a wealth of medical and nursing information.

Researchers are comparing the clinical decision-making of these student nurses with other student nurses who do not have the app.
