Welcome to the December newsletter ⛄️

Dear

Welcome to the final newsletter of 2020. It's certainly been a challenging year but as ever you've given us amazing support – so if you have chance please watch this short video message from the Corporate Communications Team.

Sadly we couldn’t host our annual Christmas Carol Service in the chapel this year, but for some festive cheer you can follow the Chaplaincy Facebook page as they share footage of some of our wonderful partner schools singing carols.

Just so you know, the University will be closed from Friday 18 December – Monday 4 January. We look forward to working alongside you again in the new year.

Stay safe, have a fantastic Christmas and very best wishes for 2021.

Two alumni named as most influential Black Britons

We are very proud that two Leeds Trinity alumni have been named in the Powerlist 2021.

Author Dorothy Koomson (pictured) and Historian David Olusoga OBE were both named last month alongside celebrities including Lewis Hamilton and Marcus Rashford MBE.

The Powerlist is an annual publication of the UK's most influential people of African, African Caribbean and African American heritage.

SUccess Stories

Our friends in the Students' Union (SU) are looking to celebrate the experiences and achievements of those who have interacted with them in many different capacities over the years.

So if you've been involved before, you can fill in their survey to give further information on the role you had with them, the skills you took away, how this impacted you and your favourite thing about the SU.

Supporting a community during COVID-19

Since 2010 alumnus John Flanagan (Drama and Public Media, 1983) has supported more than 250,000 people affected by adverse conditions in the Philippines through the provision of food, clothing and other materials.

Despite the challenges of lockdown from March this year, John has continued to support Filipino communities and is part of the country’s COVID-19 Task Force set up by local government.

In 2021 he'll be launching an educational programme offering schooling in English with the intention of adding further subjects. The Alumni Office has connected John with our merchandise supplier Formkraft who are sending out a range of stationery supplies in January to support John's latest initiaitve. Find out more.

Featured alumni – our festive friends!

Usually we feature one member of our alumni community in this section, but this month we wanted to celebrate and say thank you to even more of the alumni who have joined in with our fun and festive activities!
