This summer, July 23–August 5, 2017, I'll be teaching a course on Culture and Consumption in an exciting new program called Unbound Prometheus, which offers a fascinating array of summer courses in Kavala, Greece (pictured above). Course topics range from neuroimaging to ancient travel, computer security to visual communication. Check out all the course offerings here, including syllabi. Undergraduates can earn college credits, but all ages are welcome. The classes are great for adults who want intellectual or artistic stimulation along with their vacation. In addition to a class, the $2,700 tuition includes 13 days of hotel (double occupancy), breakfasts and dinners, and a day trip to the island of Thassos. For those who want to take two courses over four weeks, there's a 10% discount. Read about the hotel on TripAdvisor here. Go here for full information on tuition and registration. (If you register, whether for my course or another one, please tell them I sent you.) The registration deadline is February 1. I hope to see you in Kavala! Meanwhile, at Bloomberg ViewWith the new year, I'll be writing at least three times a month for Bloomberg View, up from twice. My most recent column looked at the appeal of HGTV, which ended 2016 as the third-most-watched cable network after ESPN and Fox News.
To find out what I think are the network's most fundamental qualities, however, you'll have to read the column. In my ongoing coverage of the wearables industry, my year-end column looked at how the high-stakes business of trucker safety is spurring apps that fight drowsy driving—a serious hazard for regular drivers as well. I should have a new article up in the next day or two. You can find all of my Bloomberg View columns here. For more...Please follow me on Twitter @vpostrel. Visit my website at vpostrel.com. |
