New data shows that the UK has been vastly overestimating the number of international students who overstay their visas and calls into question the government’s policy of including them in net immigration figures. Johanna Waters says the fact it came as a surprise to some shows how successful the vilification campaign
against these students has been. Meanwhile, GCSE pupils receiving their exam results will have been given marks from one to nine alongside the usual A* to G grades. Chris Rolph explains how the new system works and why it’s causing so much
confusion. And for those who failed, Liz Atkins explains what to do next.
The concept of schizophrenia is dying. Psychiatrists are now questioning whether it is a distinct condition or something far more complex and many are calling for the word to be abolished altogether. But whatever emerges from the ashes of schizophrenia, argues Simon McCarthy-Jones, must provide better ways to help those struggling with very real experiences.
After Charlottesville, debate continues about what to do with Confederate statues. Some have argued that rather than being destroyed, potentially further inflaming tensions, they should be placed in a museum. Kevin Waite sees the potential – but context is everything.
All the best.
