The initial list of over 150 Texas craft beers has been release, to be poured at this year's 2015 Texas Craft Brewers Festival, coming Sept. 19 to Austin. The Festival, which benefits Habitat for Humanity Austin and is produced by the Texas Craft Brewers Guild, is the largest celebration of Texas craft beer. Ever.

Let's See What's Trending

Hop-forward IPAs and pale ales continue to reign supreme, enjoying a robust 23% increase from last year. The big story, though, is the leap Sours, Saisons and Farmhouse Ales have made, up 83%, and more than doubling if you include "Other," where often-sour styles like Gose currently reside. It's worth noting, too, the "Sours" category gobbled up Berliner Weisses this year, contributing to a drop in the "Wheat" category. We recommend, taking it all with a grain of salt (or Gose!):

  • IPAs / Pales - 34.8%  (up 23% from 2014)
  • Sours / Saisons / Farmhouse - 15.2%  (up 83% from 2014)
  • Blacks / Browns / Reds / Rye - 12.7%  (up 1.6% from  2014)
  • Stouts / Porters / Strongs - 11.6%  (up 16% from 2014)
  • Wheats - 9.1%  (down 27.2% from 2014)
  • Lagers (Pilsners, Bocks, Märzens) - 9.1%
  • Blondes / Goldens / Ambers - 4%
  • Other - 3.5%  (up 6.1% from 2014)

Finally, you can see Texas craft brewers' creativity on display when zeroing in on special brewing techniques and ingredients:

  • Imperials / Doubles - 12.6%   (up 7.7% from 2014)
  • Barrel Aged - 7.6%
  • Low ABV - 23.5% below 5.5% ABV (3% labeled "Session")
  • Flavor-Infusing Adjuncts - 28.8%
Nuts - 4% of all beers  (14% of the adjunct beers)
Spice & Herbs - 3%  (1.5% of the adjunct beers)
Coffee - 4%  (14% of the adjunct beers)
Peppers - 2.5%  (8.8% of the adjunct beers)
Vanilla - 2%  (7% of the adjunct beers)
Pumpkin - 2% (7% of the adjunct beers)
Oatmeal - 2%  (7% of the adjunct beers)
Milk Sugar - 1.5%  (5.3% of the adjunct beers)
