The American missionary John Allen Chau was killed last month when he attempted to contact the isolated tribe of North Sentinel Island. This has prompted widespread assertions of the tribe’s “right to be left alone”. This may seem the reasonable response. But such a policy is underpinned by a series of problematic assumptions, as human rights expert Karolina Follis explains.

Geckos have a mysterious ability to walk on water: they’re too big to be held up by the water’s surface tension and too small to power their way across it like some other lizards do. But by filming geckos at close range, Jasmine Nirody has been able to explain the complex combination of techniques the creatures use to perform this miraculous feat.

With just days to go before the big Brexit vote, it’s really unclear what’s going to happen. Louise Thompson explains how events might play out if MPs block Theresa May’s Brexit deal.
