Workshop on Trauma and Learning with Janet Isserlis
SDWC Lounge, 26 Benevolent St., Date TBA

Media coverage of trigger warnings on college syllabi has sparked a debate about whether or not these kinds of notifications belong in the classroom. Regardless of one's stance on trigger warnings themselves, these discussions have forced the issue of how trauma affects teaching and learning. If you've been puzzling over this issue, or have your own ideas, please join us for a discussion on approaches to dealing with trauma in learning environments. Janet Isserlis will facilitate a conversation on different kinds of trauma and their various levels of visibility and acceptance, and best practices for making space for students' experiences while teaching. Janet Isserlis has worked with adult immigrants and refugees since 1980, and has thought and written about the relationship between trauma and learning. All are welcome, please bring your own questions and thoughts! Date TBA.
