The 2016 SUN Movement Annual Progress Report has been launched

Throughout the course of the year, thousands of supporters from SUN Countries and across SUN Networks have shared their experiences of scaling up nutrition to inform the SUN Movement Annual Progress Report. Enriched by the 40 Joint Assessment exercises undertaken in SUN Countries, the 2016 report shares insights about the great strides being made across the Movement to end malnutrition in all its forms.

The Academia and Research SUN Network in Kenya holds their first National Symposium

From 23 to 24 November 2016, the Kenyan Academia and Research SUN Network held their inaugural National Nutrition Symposium at the Kenya School of Government in Nairobi. READ MORE ►

Malawi’s Minister of Health supports a local business to launch a new food product

On 18 November 2016, VALID Nutition, a member of the SUN Business Network, launched a new Ready-to-Use Complementary Food (RUCF) in Lilongwe, Malawi. The product was formally launched by Dr. Peter Kumpalume, MP and Minister for Health, Malawi. READ MORE ►

Sub-national orientation and campaigns are helping to scale up nutrition in Nepal

From 14 - 18 November 2016, a two-day orientation was held in Kathmandu with Central and District teams working on Nepal’s Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Plan (MSNP) to better collaborate on its implementation. READ MORE ►

A private sector focus at the 2016 Integrated Nutrition Conference in Kenya

From 14-16 November 2016, Catholic Relief Services held the 2016 Integrated Nutrition Conference in Nairobi, Kenya. The two main objectives of the conference were to identify strategies for civil society, government and academia to partner with the private sector and to leverage private sector products, technologies and practices that support the nutrition needs of vulnerable populations. READ MORE ►

HarvestPlus Nigeria brings thousands together for a two-day Nutritious Food Fair

From 9 to 11 November 2016, HarvestPlus Nigeria held a three-day event that brought together nearly 5,000 stakeholders from research institutions and experts from agriculture, health, education, science & technology and trade & commerce. READ MORE ►

Nutrition awareness spikes with phase two of Pakistan’s civil society campaign

From 20 to 22 November 2016, the Scaling Up Nutrition Civil Society Alliance in Pakistan (SUNCSA-Pak) launched the second phase of their #InvestInNutrition campaign with support from the Micronutrient Initiative. READ MORE ►

Global and regional efforts in support of Scaling Up Nutrition

The Partnerships Playbook is endorsed as a Global Partnership Initiative at the HLM2

On 30 November 2016, the Second High-Level Meeting (HLM2) of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC) brought global leaders together in Nairobi, Kenya. During the event, the Partnerships Playbook was officially announced as one of three new Global Partnership Initiatives (GPIs) of the GPEDC. It joins a list of 28 GPIs that are considered as voluntary, member-led commitments that help turn global agreements into impact at the country-level. READ MORE ►

Human rights experts release joint statement calling for increased efforts to support breastfeeding

On 22 November 2016, a joint statement by the UN Special Rapporteurs on the Right to Food, Right to Health, the Working Group on Discrimination against Women in law and in practice, and the Committee on the Rights of the Child called for increased efforts to promote, support and protect breastfeeding. READ MORE ►

A second workshop is convened to strengthen the SUN Movement support system

From 17-18 November 2016, the SUN Movement Secretariat convened a workshop titled, "Strengthening the SUN Movement Support System" in Geneva, Switzerland. Participants included members of SUN Networks and the Movement's technical and knowledge management support providers. READ MORE ►

GAIN event explores the issues of nutrition and food systems as urban populations increase

On 10 November 2016, the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) together with the Global Health Centre, held an event in Geneva, Switzerland titled, "Protecting our Planet’s Health: Growing Cities, Poor Nutrition, What Can Be Done?". READ MORE ►

Nutrition at COP22, the UN Climate Change Conference in Marrakech, Morocco

From 7- 18 November 2016, the 22nd session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP22) was held in Marrakech, Morocco. Participating countries released a strong joint statement, “The Marrakech Action Proclamation for our climate and sustainable development”, which reiterated their determination to implement the Paris Agreement. A series of side-events highlighted the critical need to consider the importance of nutrition with sustainability in order to achieve collective goals for people, planet and prosperity. READ MORE ►

The UN Network for SUN Strategy (2016-2020) is now available

In November 2016, following a participative process which engaged a number of actors, including UN colleagues working at the global, regional and country levels, as well as SUN Government Focal Points and stakeholders from other SUN Networks, the UN Network for SUN Strategy (2016-2020) became available. READ MORE ►

The Compendium of Actions for Nutrition is now available!

In November 2016, the UN Network for SUN/REACH Secretariat launched the Compendium of Actions for Nutrition (CAN). The CAN was developed in consultation with United Nations partner agencies and is a key contribution towards achieving the objectives of the UN Network for SUN Strategy (2016-2020) and the overall SUN Movement Strategy and Roadmap (2016-2020). READ MORE ►

2016 World Toilet Day highlights the need for better workplace and urban water and sanitation

On 19 November 2016, World Toilet Day was celebrated around the world behind the theme ‘toilets and jobs' to generate awareness about the need for access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) for better health and productivity at work. 
The day also marked the launched WaterAid’s second annual report on the state of the world’s toilets titled, ‘Overflowing cities: The State of the World’s Toilets 2016’.
