Microsoft Enterprise Agreement - Important Info

You may be aware that in previous years a cross-NHS MS licensing agreement covered the entire Microsoft Enterprise service nationally. Since last summer this has not been the case, however, for a limited period (until June 30th 2011) NHS Trusts are able to sign their own agreements, individually, but at the same discounts for a Platform Agreement that they enjoyed on a National basis.

Discounts for NHS Trust customers are available to them as a promotion from Microsoft that will expire on June 30th 2011.

Microsoft Enterprise Promotions

The promotions available are outlined below. NHS Trusts can apply to take advantage of these offers as long as they were previously enrolled under the original NHS-wide agreement that expired in May 2010 and remain eligible to Microsoft’s public sector pricing :

  • Renew Platform Microsoft Enterprise Agreement at a Trust Level.

Any NHS Trust renewing its Microsoft Enterprise Agreement (Professional or Enterprise Desktop) for three-years to 2014 can take advantage of the discounts that were previously available to them under the NHS-wide agreement. The 3 year agreement includes an uplift to enable the agreement to be three years from date of signature as opposed to 2 payments required initially and the agreement expiring on 2013 this will extend until 2014. The uplift enables continuation of the Software Assurance with no requirement to purchase the Licence again

  • Renew Component Microsoft Enterprise Agreement at a Trust Level.

Any NHS Trust renewing components of its Microsoft Enterprise Agreement for three-years to 2014 can take advantage of the PSA09 discounts and Software Assurance benefits that were previously available to them under the NHS-wide agreement. The 3 year agreement includes an uplift to enable the agreement to be three years from date of signature as opposed to 2 payments required initially and the agreement expiring on 2013 this will extend until 2014. The uplift enables continuation of the Software Assurance with no requirement to purchase the Licence again.

  • Renew Microsoft Enrolment for Application Platform - SQL Server and SharePoint Server with unlimited use

NHS Trust customers can also renew their Microsoft licensing agreement for SQL Server (data management and business intelligence platform) and SharePoint Server (communications, document management and collaboration platform) using the discounts for these products as negotiated with Buying Solutions under the terms of the Public Sector Agreement (PSA09).

They will be entitled to unlimited deployment of both SQL Server and SharePoint Server at no extra cost for the duration of their agreement. This provides predictability of price for the duration of the agreement with no concerns about hidden costs relating to their deployment and perpetual software licence rights when the agreement expires in 2014.

The 3 year agreement includes an uplift to enable the agreement to be three years from date of signature as opposed to 2 payments required initially and the agreement expiring on 2013 this will extend until 2014. The uplift enables continuation of the Software Assurance with no requirement to purchase the Licence again.

Bearing in mind that your organisation may be working with NHS Trusts on solutions using MS technology, we wanted to advise you of this offer as part of our broader co-selling effort and our desire to drive synergy between SI and LAR partners.

FIRSTLight Patient Information solution free trial

In a recent report, the Care Quality Commission state that the NHS is still failing to provide patients with enough information during and after discharge.

In the report, more than a third of patients (37%) were not given written or printed information about what they should or should not do after leaving hospital and 45% said they did not have enough information on possible treatment side effects.

First DataBank developed FIRSTLight to better manage the ways in which patient advice is presented. The new point of care decision support tool displays patient data in a single Patient Information page. FIRSTLight then enables physicians to inform patients quickly and easily on how to take or use a drug and which side effects should or shouldn’t be reported.

With the next release of FIRSTLight any page can be output to a pdf and printed it off or sent as a link to the patient.
FIRSTLight also includes other time-saving features:

  • In Safety – with other drugs and food, the table of drug interactions can be ordered by severity, by drug group name or by interaction message. Just click on the column headers to sort.
  • In Dosage - a list of adult and child doses along with their licensed status are all displayed in the same place and can be filtered if required.

Register for a free trial and you’ll also be the first to know about new products and services from FIRSTLight. For more information on FIRSTLight services, contact First DataBank or drop them an email at firstlight@firstdatabank.co.uk to let them know how FIRSTLight’s working for you.

Microsoft Office 2010 SP1

Microsoft revealed details on Office 2010 SP1 and updates for Windows Phone 7 at the TechEd North America conference this month.

The first service pack for Office 2010 and SharePoint will contain updates to improve stability, performance, and security. With it, Microsoft promised a better Internet Explorer 9 browsing experience, improved Office Web Apps functionality, and better SharePoint database performance.

It’ll include minor updates as well; including all public updates through June 2011 and all cumulative updates through April 2011, in addition to some previously unreleased fixes made specifically for this service pack. SP1 will be available for download at the end of June and will be offered as an automatic update 90 days later.

The new Windows Phone 7 will boast organization, security, and search enhancements in Microsoft Office Outlook Mobile, and Outlook Mobile includes a conversation view, pinnable email folders, server search, and complex password support. Information Rights management is now included for email and documents as well as targeted distribution for business apps from the Windows Phone Marketplace.

Windows Phone 7 has also been updated to support Office 365. Users can access Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Lync Online.

Office 2010 SP1 updates include:

  • Additional supported hypervisor scenarios for virtualized Exchange Server 2010, including Unified Messaging, combining Exchange’s high availability solutions, Database Availability Groups (DAG) with hypervisor based clustering and failover solutions.
  • An updated Exchange Server 2010 Microsoft Certified Master (MCM) program for Exchange 2010 server experts to get MCM certified.
  • New license mobility options, which will be available on July 1, 2011 through Microsoft Volume License agreements with an active Software Assurance benefit. Customers will be able to deploy application services on-premise or through hosted service providers for the cloud.
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V will support Linux-based CentOS.
  • Windows Identity Foundation (WIF) v3.5 Extension for SAML 2.0 Protocol enables .NET developers to build applications for the enterprise and government that require the SAML 2.0 (Security Assertion Markup Language) protocol.
  • Microsoft Assessment and Planning (MAP) Toolkit beta 6.0 will be released on May 31. The toolkit provides data and analysis on IT infrastructure. It was designed to help ease the process of migrating existing software to a virtualized or cloud environment. Version 6.0 includes the ability to provide consolidation guidance for Hyper-V Cloud Fast Track Infrastructures, including computing power, network, and storage architectures.

Hadron SA

We've changed the name of our award-winning Sharepoint Solution Accelerator to Hadron SA. We feel it's new name encompasses the solution's unique speed and technological advances.

Hadron continues to be one of our most popular solutions, and the best way for NHS trusts to get a full intranet and DMS solution in a short time at low cost. It’s worth mentioning that a recent conversation we had with a large bank suggested they would have anticipated spending £1m to achieve what we include in Hadron. Take a look at the Hadron SA new and improved factsheet here.

We are now offering an alternative licensing model, the License Enhancement Pack, that includes all updates and in excess of £30k of add ons per annum - contact us for more info.

Freedom of Information Solution

We have recently developed a brand new FOI solution using powerful workflow and visualisation tools. The system will be based on our SharePoint workflow package, with each active FOI request representing a running Process.
