Hope Force Response in Florida: Situation Report #2

October 3, 2022

Hurricane Ian Response Continues

We often talk about the "two hands of the gospel" when deploying to a natural disaster; seeing the Kingdom of Heaven in the here and now, or as Jesus said, "...at hand." Nothing exemplifies this more than interactions with surivors — more specifically, as we hear their stories.

HFI Reservist, George Camp, came across a survivor who was sitting in his chair outside his flooded home.  The sense of hopelessness, despair and exhaustion had begun to set in as "Jeff" couldn't muster the energy to stand up.  George introduced himself and reached out his hand — something Jeff thought was simply a courteous handhsake.  Instead, George grasped his hand and offered up a prayer on Jeff's behalf — calling upon God for His peace and hope amidst this disaster.  Jeff later shared with Hope Force personnel that this prayer was the moment his perspective changed, and he experienced a sense of hope...despite his circumstances.  From the physical standpoint, it was simply a handshake and a prayer.  From an eternal perspective, it was the Kingdom of Heaven colliding with the "here and now."  It was a moment as simple as one man coming alongside another — yet it was also a moment that the God of the universe used to bring the peace and hope that only He can offer.

It is God who brings hope and healing.  We just choose to make ourselves available to be the "transporters" of those gifts.  Would you please consider being a transporter of those good gifts by joining us in Florida?  Reservists and volunteers will continue to be needed as the devastation and impact of Ian is so incredibly widespread.
