The difference PE & School Sport makes to whole school improvement

The Association for Physical Education (AfPE) has published a poster for schools to use, highlighting the difference that PE and School Sport can make to whole school improvement. The central focus of the poster is high quality physical education as measured by Ofsted as the expected outcome. More>>

Active Cumbria PE Network Meetings Update

The inaugural PE network meetings that tok place in localties across Cumbria in recnt weeks proved very popular with primary school PE subject leaders.  Over 80 representatives attended the five locality meetings.  There was unanimous support for them to continue across the year and then to be sustained into the future. The agenda for each meeting will be fixed in advance by a regional representative. New National Curriculum Scheme of Work

Following the recent local PE Networking meetings that have taken place across Cumbria, a bulk order was placed on behalf of schools wishing to purchase the new Cambridgeshire PE Scheme of Work.  If you are interested in purchasing the scheme or would like more information and see some sample pages use the FREE ‘Ask Howard’ service.

New/Inexperienced PE Subject Leadership Course Spring Term 2016

During the local PE Networking meetings around 10 people have indicated they wish to attend this course.  (Places will be limited to 20). If you would like more information on content etc. again riase your interest using the FREE ‘Ask Howard' advisory service.

North Cumbria Badminton Performance Centre

NEW Dance Network for Cumbria

DARE DANCE has been offered a Cultural Investment Contract with Cumbria County Council to establish a new dance network for Cumbria.They are working closely with partners across the region and want to create opportunities for Cumbria to have a strong voice in regional dance development, in particular the new initiative Dance Network: NW.

Two dates in Cumbria have been arranged for practitioners to meet, dance and discuss their priorities for dance in the county and the region.Dance teachers in schools are welcome to get involved.More>>>

Chance Camp support Allerdale Primary Schools to support Gifted & Talented Pupils

In partnership between Chance Camp & Elite Sport Development a new programme has been established in the Allerdale Borough to identify and support Year 5 & 6 pupils who are showing talent in PE & sport. On Sunday 22nd November 50 children attended the excellent facilities at Netherhall Community Sports Centre to participate in a talent development day.More>>>

Active Beyond Education

New research released yesterday highlights a clear need to engage disabled people in sport and physical activity at a young age. ‪#‎ActiveBeyondEducation‬ calls for better opportunities for young disabled people to prevent later life inactivity.The report illustrates some ways to prevent a decline in participation as people move into adulthood. ‘School Zone’ resource to help teach children about being active

Change4Life has developed a new resource for primary teachers, which provides curriculum-linked materials and inspiration to help teach children about healthy eating and being active.

British Showjumping launch-Just For Schools

These exciting new Championships, brought to you by British
Showjumping in conjunction with The Pony Club, will allow for
schools to submit teams of three or four riders within a specific
height category of either 70cm, 80cm, 90cm, 1.00m or 1.10m. A
League Table underpins each of the height categories with an
objective of qualifying for the National Schools Team & Individual
Championship Finals which will take place at the British
Showjumping National Championships at Stoneleigh Park next

Sainsbury's Active Kids Paralympic Challenge 2016

This aims to inspire schools and young people to learn more and participate in Paralympic sports in the lead up to Rio 2016.

North West Regional Inclusive Zone Basketball Competition 2016

An action packed sport that combines running and wheelchair basketball, Inclusive Zone Basketball (IZB) enables players with a physical disability to represent their school and region alongside their non-disabled classmates in a fun, fast-paced game.

What about YOUth?

Public Health England has developed a tool to provide estimates on young people’s health behaviours. Based on the What about YOUth, 2014 survey, the tool presents information on their attitudes to physical activity, diet, smoking, alcohol, use of drugs, bullying and wellbeing. For each individual topic the information is shown by ethnicity, deprivation, sexuality, region and local authority. More>>>
