Dear Friends,

Within hours of the September 19th tragic earthquake striking Mexico, a group of Mexican Hope Force International (HFI) Reservists arrived at the scene of devastation. They were granted access past the barricades to one of the most emotional scenes that would haunt the minds and hearts of parents anywhere.

Upon arrival at a school that had collapsed in the heart of Mexico City– with many children and teachers still trapped inside – our HFI Reservists were able to offer emotional and spiritual care to the parents and family members waiting to find out the status of their loved ones. Only weeks earlier, these HFI Reservists participated in a disaster responder training intensive provided by HFI to equip them for such a time as this. Through the teaching, they came to understand the significance of something we call "the ministry of presence" – and how to be an appropriate caregiver to those who have experienced trauma.

Our teams were able to provide a listening ear, words of comfort and hope, and a shoulder to lean on during what undoubtedly has been the most horrifying night in the lives of these parents and loved ones. Little did we know on August 11th, that many of those participating in our training intensive would find themselves at such tragic scenes so soon.

In addition to the team that is now in Mexico City, we have had a team in the southern part of the country that was struck by an 8.1 earthquake on September 7tth. Our HFI leadership team and our Mexican Reservists are providing medical care, have delivered two tons of relief supplies and are providing emotional and spiritual care to the survivors who have been greatly traumatized. Please keep our teams and all of Hope Force in your prayers during this season of unprecedented storms and shaking. 

Like never before, we need God's strength and grace to continue being His hands and feet -- expressing his heart of compassion and mercy to those in such desperate need at this time.
