Hi there,

The ability to extract insights from data is a hot commodity everywhere at the moment. It even extends to the mining moguls of WA, where nearly 3,000 more data scientists are expected to be needed in the coming decade.

It’s a tangible example of a global trend as the boom in big data, machine learning and AI, and rapid digitisation of businesses, sees demand peaking for data hounds.

But while data science may be hot, it’s not enough to just attach the label. They need to provide information that either identifies potential for savings, or opportunities to drive new revenue streams.

Put another way, digital chops need to come with commercial smarts. And that's something that scientists historically have struggled with (let alone a 'sexy' tag).

In other news:

  • What does Telstra’s restructure mean for the business – and the NBN
  • Immersive commerce is coming to a ready audience
  • Hyperloop gets taken for a ride
  • State-sponsored hacking targets vaccine programs

As the flight to digital accelerates, it's timely to take a look at your capability to introduce tech innovation into your business. Are you and your tech partners agile enough to compete with the 'cloud natives'? Tune in next Wednesday to hear more about Jade Software's ski jump of DevOps maturity and how it can help you keep up with the disruptors.

Enjoy the read,
