It even extends to the mining moguls of WA, where nearly 3,000 more data scientists are expected to be needed in the coming decade. It’s a tangible example of a global trend as the boom in big data, machine learning and AI, and rapid digitisation of businesses, sees demand peaking for data hounds. But while data science may be hot, it’s not enough to just attach the label. They need to provide information that either identifies potential for savings, or opportunities to drive new revenue streams. Put another way, digital chops need to come with commercial smarts.
