Winkie's eye surgery is a success!

We just wanted to update you all on Winkie's eye surgery...  a wonderful success and a life changer for our little Wink-man! Dr. Sylvia Neumann, an all animal opthalmologist in Santa Rosa did the first surgery and it looks like he won't be needing the second! Great work Dr. Sylvia! Winkie (and all of us at ASCS) send our sincere thanks to the good doctor and her incredible staff -- and to all of you who so generously donated money so that Wink could have a clear vision of the good times ahead of him.

Winkie is already off to his new forever home, running and playing and having a good old time, with no more itchy, irritated eyes, no more threat of damage to his corneas. He sends purrs and mews, and a few sandpaper-licks to all who helped him out!!

See more photos of our little Winkie on KittyCam!

Found as a kitten by an animal control officer in Livingston (in the central valley), he had an upper respiratory infection and she knew he would not survive in a shelter. Lucky Winkie stayed with her in her office until she could find a rescue to take him. At the time, ASCS was taking another cat from the area, and we were asked to take Wink as well.

Winkie landed in a wonderful foster home, he was blossoming into a happy, adoptable little fella, but they noticed that Winkie had constant eye problems, sometimes just watery, sometimes looking very painful.

After many visits to vets and eye specialist it was determined that Winkie needed surgery... possibly two surgeries! First, a little nip/tuck on the lid to roll his lids 'out' instead of 'in'. If that didn't completely do the trick, he would need a treatment where they remove any extra under-lashes.

Wink says 'thanks so much!' = ^.. ^=

URGENT! ASCS needs Foster Homes!

Now what we need most are FOSTER HOMES!! Adoptions are slower in the summer.  With people away on vacations (and mostly little kittens getting scooped up) the adult cats don't get adopted as quickly. Unfortunately the euthanasia rate soars in the shelters and we are unable to rescue for lack of foster care. There are some lovely cats who don't make it out of shelters simply because of space!!!  Do you have a spare room where a kitty could live 'til they find their forever home?  We will provide the food, litter, supplies -- you just provide a room and some love!  In a short amount of time, you could save a life... please email or give a call if you can help.
