New Conference Workshops in the Works ...Fall is the time when we prepare new workshop topics and submit them to the Spring conferences for consideration. This year, I'm teaming up with Help One Child to talk about how the adoption conversation is not only for teens.
Read here about Caitlin, who was already raising a son, and had plans to go back to school to further her career. She knew that she wouldn't be able to do this while raising two children on her own. Adoption was the right solution for Caitlin from the very beginning.
Someday soon, you'll be faced with the opportunity to suggest adoption. Someone will tell you their daughter/niece/neighbor is pregnant. Don't know where to start?
Send her to unplannedgood.org where she can read the stories of birthmothers and adoptive parents and adoptees and see why we consider open adoption a loving solution for everyone involved. Learn the basics of open adoption
...and how to suggest it when you hear of someone facing unplanned pregnancy. Read more here.
A Reference Guide for Families Here’s a guide to open adoption and how to make it work, from the match period through common post-adoption bumps. It includes tips on how to keep the
focus on the child’s best interests.
Phrase of the Day: Open Adoption
Open adoption is a form of adoption in which the biological and adoptive families have each other's contact information and varying degrees of contact with each other, by phone, in person and/or through social media.
DID YOU KNOW? - Fewer than 1% of women facing unplanned pregnancy make an adoption plan?
- When they do, it's because an adult in their life encouraged them to consider adoption?
- There are over one million U.S. couples waiting now to adopt?

Why are we doing this?
Young women are 50% more likely to make an adoption plan when the trusted adult in their life suggests it to them. Otherwise, most girls don't give it a minute's thought, and choose between abortion or single parenting. That's why we need to get this on the radar of more people.
