This new, quarterly update from the Research Program will assist in keeping all members of the Department up to date on PM&R research studies, faculty and trainee research accomplishments, important deadlines and information, and exciting events you don’t want to miss. Our goal is to increase transparency, improve communication and provide better access to research resources. Our department hosts diverse research interests, and our faculty, residents, fellows and staff conduct research at multiple locations, including Froedtert Hospital, the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, and Children’s Hospital, in addition to collaborating with partners at UW-Milwaukee, UW-Madison, Marquette University and beyond! Our Research Program has made some significant advances over the last year, including the addition of the Research Intensive Track to our Residency Program. Developing this track was a collaborative effort between the Education and Research Programs. The Research Intensive Track provides an advanced research experience for residents and includes advanced mentorship, protected time, non-competitive funding, and greater expectations for productivity. We have welcomed three residents (Erin Beddows, Michael Harper, Nick Donahue) onto the Research Intensive Track and look forward to continuing to grow our resident research experience. The Research Program also offers funding opportunities through the Research Administration Committee (RAC). The RAC funds pilot projects up to $5,000 for PM&R faculty members through our Pilot Award Program. The intent of this award is to provide funding to generate necessary preliminary data that will lead to extramural funding or significant improvements to clinical care. The RAC also funds travel to national meetings to present original research through the RAC Travel Award. Although applications for both awards are currently paper-based, we will be taking the application process online beginning July, 2019. Please contact Moriah Iverson, MS, Program Manager, at miverson@mcw.edu for more information. We are excited about the opportunity to share information about our Research Program with the Department. Please let us know if you have questions, comments, feedback or suggestions for items to include in future quarterly updates. Sincerely, Matt Durand, PhD Moriah Iverson, MS Meet the TeamThe PM&R Research Team is comprised of Matt Durand, PhD, Research Director, Moriah Iverson, MS, Program Manager II, and Rachel Minkin, MS, Clinical Research Coordinator II.
