Wayne Ho as President & CEO

December 9, 2016 - The Boards of Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. (“CPC”), and its affiliates and associated entities*, are pleased to announce the appointment of Wayne Ho as President and Chief Executive Officer. He will assume his new role on January 17, 2017.

New Location of CPC Queens Community Center

Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. (“CPC”) is pleased to announce that its programs have completed their move into its new location at 133-14 41st Avenue, Flushing, NY 11355.  The brand new location, named CPC Queens Community Center, is an intergenerational community center that is home for CPC Queens Community Services, Services to Families with Special Needs, Youth Services, Workforce Development and the Nan Shan Senior Center, as well as a new early childhood center and playground currently in development.

華人策劃協會(簡稱“華策會”)皇后區社區服務的各服務項目已搬入位於法拉盛41大道133-14號,名為“華策會皇后區社區服務中心”的新樓,服務項目包括社區服務,特殊家庭服務,青少年服務,職業培訓,福壽老人中心及將成立的托兒所及操場。

CPC Increases Awareness for the
Developmental Needs of Satellite Babies

On December 21, 2016, Sinovision broadcasted a story on the increasing number of “satellite babies”  in the US. The reporter spoke to several families and staff from programs servicing these students, including families and staff at CPC’s Queens School-Age Child Care Center at PS20.

Various experts noted during the broadcast that changing the caretaker for young children can cause disruptions in the child’s stable environment and result in a disruption in their development. Some children might exhibit signs of aggression, anxiety or depression because the caregivers that they remember being dependent upon has changed suddenly. This can make it harder for parents to recognize developmental issues in their child.

CPC & University at Buffalo Host
First-Ever "Instant Decision Day"

On Saturday, December 3, 2916, CPC Youth Services partnered with the University at Buffalo to host the organization's first-ever "Instant Decision Day". Organized by CPC's Project Gateway College Counseling Center, the event provided college-bound high school Seniors with an opportunity to have their applications reviewed by admissions representatives from the University at Buffalo (consistently ranked as a Top 50 public research institution) in person. The event was a success with a 58% acceptance rate.

“My Family” Warms Hearts and Wins Young Poet’s Society Competition

In honor of the season for giving, NYC Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD) hosted a “Young Poet’s Society” competition. The competition invited youth who are enrolled in a DYCD funded program to submit a poem around the theme of “family”. Sitora Chorshanbaeva from CPC’s Homecrest COMPASS program at PS153 was one out of five “Young Poet’s Society” winners. Sitora is also the only fourth grader who is on the panel of winners; the other winners are in seventh grade.
