No Images? Click here OH! We should talk about OHS.Occupational Health and Safety (or, if you’d prefer, WHS—Workplace Health and Safety) are the regulations, laws and compliance codes that detail the responsibility of workers and employers to ensure safety is maintained at work. Each business or industry will have its own risk to identify—the OHS overview for a construction site will be different from that of a hospital. A pharmacy will have different risks than a school. OHS is part of an employer's duty of care, and it’s obviously super important. We all deserve to get home safely. But what's the best way to make sure your team know how to stay safe? Making your physical work environment safe is your business. Helping with the information and instruction, and getting the message across—well, that’s ours. It’s not enough to just have OHS guidelines, they have to be clear and easily understood by everyone, regardless of age, background, or language. And that’s where we can help. The beauty of a sketch video is that we can take complex or dry information and make it easily understood, in a language and style that your employers will respond to. We can craft words and pictures for you that will help create a safer workplace. Whether it's for an induction process, or part of regular ongoing training. Perhaps you need to alert your workers about new legislation that affects your industry, or there’s been an accident and you want to make sure it doesn’t happen again. You need to make sure that this important OHS information is understood and absorbed. Draw everyone a clear picture. Sketch it out. Frequently Asked Questions (that we have made up)Can I have someone in my video who looks a bit like me/my boss/my nemesis? The short answer is yes. The longer answer is … we’re illustrators, not caricaturists. So we can certainly do a ‘nod’ to what individual people look like, we’re not going to say we can replicate them entirely. But a hairstyle, a piercing, or a signature hat—we’d love to! And if you’ve got a building or a site that you want us to showcase, we’re always happy to use your photos as inspiration to really personalise your message. Do you just sketch? What’s with the just? We sketch. Really well. And sometimes we start with a sketch and it becomes motion graphics, or more craft-based animation. We can add sketchy elements to a traditionally filmed video (making your CEO a superhero for the latest company announcement perhaps?). We can sketch out an idea and then what it becomes … well that can be as big as your imagination will let it. Is it true that penguin chicks are not waterproof? It is. The soft down feathers that baby penguins first have aren’t waterproof. So they have to keep out of the water until they grow their juvenile plumage and can swim swim, swim. I’m not a very good drawer but is it helpful if I sketch out some ideas for what I want in my video? Yes please! That would be great. We love that people think differently—in words, in pictures, colours and music … whatever way you find to express your ideas, we’re happy to receive them. (Oh, and you probably are a good drawer). MovemberFor those participating in Movember, growing a mo to support men’s health – well done and good luck! Here’s some inspiration ... What's New?Sketch Videos is busy growing our team of graphic facilitators and live sketchers. More and more people are becoming aware of the massive benefits of adding a concise, visual element to their workshops, presentations, brainstorming sessions, and so we’re working hard to make sure we have the right people for the job. October was a super busy month for our Chief Sketcher, Matt, with his graphic facilitation of some great talks, conferences, workshops. Here are some highlights. Last month saw us sketching some amazing conferences. First up was the Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress 2016, which was held at the amazing Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre over 5 days. The conference attracted around 10,000 delegates, and covered a range of interesting topics—everything from driverless cars, to using big data to shape town planning and infrastructure decisions to different types of vehicle automation, to cutting edge public transport & bike solutions. It really was a fascinating glimpse into the near future! Sketch Videos was set up in the exhibitor's hall with two large whiteboard canvases to fill with visual notes from the sessions. We also spent a day at the CPA Congress. While a conference targeting accountants might not sound terribly inspiring on the surface, it was actually quite the opposite. Far from a collection of talks about how to be a better accountant, the CPA Congress has evolved over the years to deliver an impressive collection of world-renowned presenters filled with inspiring tales of the businesses and not-for-profits with which they have been involved over the years. Hosted by funny man Adam Spencer, the lineup included speakers from Google, Thank You, Sky News, the NBL, Vinomofo, and more. A huge thank you to the organisers of both conferences for the opportunity to attend and sketch such fascinating talks! Until next time, happy sketching! Cheers
