Research Update

Good afternoon,

Linked below is the February 2018 Domestic Tax Paid Estimate.

Below find a few key points provided by our Chief Economist, Michael Uhrich:

  • There was a delay in release of the February domestic tax paid estimate due to issues beyond the Beer Institute’s reasonable control. We apologize for any inconvenience.
  • U.S. domestic beer shipment volume declined by 3.4% during February 2018 on an equal number of selling days compared to February 2017. Looking back to February 2017, volume that month compared to February 2016 declined 10.6% on one less selling day.
  • Inventory shortfalls throughout the value chain, but especially west of the Mississippi, appear to be the primary cause of this February’s decline.
  • Much of the Eastern U.S. experienced well above average precipitation during February, another contributing factor in the volume decline.
  • We expect to release the March domestic tax paid estimate on Thursday, April 19.

If you have any questions, please contact Michael at either 202-737-2337 or muhrich@beerinstitute.org.

Cheers,

Jim McGreevy
