Innovation & Creativity Abound Across OOH in July 2013

Welcome to the July 2013 newsletter from OMANZ,

This is the first edition for me as the new General Manager - hopefully you’ll find it an interesting read. It has been a great month for the Out of Home industry with a nice mixture of innovation and creativity on the streets of New Zealand. We have the new Digital Billboard from APNO on Auckland’s Queen Street, bringing a little taste of the future of our industry to Godzone. Alongside this we have a nice selection of creativity on iSite’s buses, Retail Ads for oOh!Media and Adshel Street Furniture. There are some exciting new insights and research from APNO into the real time exposure of people to Out of Home advertising in their everyday lives and an announcement from  iSite about their launch event for their new market intelligence initiative delivering highly targeted outdoor....sounds intriguing!

All this hard work is reflected in some very healthy revenue growth.  The recent release of Q2 data shows a 22% increase in spend compared to the same period in 2012.

It really is a positive story for our medium and OMANZ is committed to continuing the trend.

OMANZ Appoints a General Manager

The Outdoor Media Association of New Zealand (OMANZ) is pleased to announce the appointment of Adam McGregor as General Manager.   Adam’s arrival coincides with the departure of Jo Davenport, who after 3-years with the organisation has decided to pursue other interests.

Sensational Growth for OOH in Q2 2013

The Outdoor Media Association of NZ (OMANZ) reports continued growth for the Out of Home industry with the release of Q2 2013 revenue figures today. Gross media revenue for the industry increased by 22% compared to the same period in 2012, reaching $16.6 million for the quarter.

Adam McGregor, General Manager of OMANZ said: “It’s very encouraging to see advertisers increasing their investment in our sector.  The figures released today show a second period of strong growth for the industry in 2013, building on the 16% reported in Q1 this year. The total revenue reported for the first half of 2013 is $32 million, which is 19% up on the corresponding period of 2012.  Confidence in the market is certainly returning, which bodes well for a strong performance overall by year-end.

APN Outdoor Turn Heads with First Digital Billboard

APN Outdoor switched on a New Zealand first on Monday 1st July in the Auckland CBD, with the illumination of the city’s first ever large format, high resolution, roadside digital billboard on Queen Street. The digital billboard is a 27sqm high resolution LED screen, featuring continuous rotating advertising. Five leading advertisers simultaneously went live on the site this week: New Zealand Lotteries, BMW, Freeview, Holden and Coca-Cola.

oOh! Delivers Inventive Outdoor Ads

Advertisers’ growing desire to gain deeper connection with New Zealanders by using inventive and creative special builds for their campaigns has seen oOh! Media introduce new in-house production expertise to its team.

Natalie Patterson, has been appointed as the company’s first Production Manager in New Zealand to not only execute and deliver innovative campaigns that extend beyond the advertising panel but to support the entire production requirements across all Fly, Retail and Study campaigns.

Adshel Gives Surf Lifesaving NZ a Helping Hand

In November last year, Adshel joined forces with Surf Life Saving New Zealand (SLSNZ) for their annual Adshel Creative Challenge. A key event in the industry calendar, the Adshel Creative Challenge aims to promote best in class creative principles for the effective use of Adshel’s outdoor media as well as offering much needed support for SLSNZ.

Adshel's Creative Showcase - July 2013

This month has produced excellent displays of creativity demonstrating OOH's capacity to connect in multiple ways with its audience. 

This has been highlighted by Adshel's creative showcase this month.  Amongst other initiatives, their Fiji Airways campaign used a heater unit in a shelter so people could experience the warmth of Fiji while waiting for their bus.
