Winter 2017

The end of Autumn and the beginning of Winter have brought us some mild conditions with once again we have been blessed with absolutely breathtaking sunsets and sunrises, and stunning colours throughout most days.

As we have entered the chilly middle month of Winter, rest assured the wood fires are still burning strong at Pennyroyal Farm, and the hot tub under the stars in Acacia Cottage has provided much joy for many guests this season so far.

The Otways in Winter is truly a magical place and so different from the Summer or Spring months.  So many different colours and smells are brought out by the winter chill.  Breathing in that pure fresh air in the middle of the forest is something that everyone really needs to experience.

Goats have been relocated temporarily...

Our gorgeous and friendly goats are on a bit of a holiday, just around the corner for a little while while we renovate our paddocks.  They have settled in nicely and will be back as soon as possible.  We apologise to any of our guests that look forward to seeing them and feeding them.  As much as they are missing all the human and pooch contact, they are being very well looked after and are enjoying their break.  We will keep you posted on their return to the Pennyroyal Farm.

Out and About...

Bambra Agroforestry and Yan Yan Gurt West Farms...

If you are looking for something different to do in our area, then look no further. Bambra Agroforestry Farm and Yan Yan Gurt West Farm operate guided farm tours at certain times of the year.  These tours are all about agroforestry which is the integration of trees and shrubs into farming landscapes for conservation and profit.  It is all about the farmers using trees to improve the environmental, social and economic values of their land.

Bambra Agroforestry Farm is set up as an outdoor classroom.  This farm is managed for furniture timber, bush food, seed and other products. Yan Yan Gurt Farm is an award winning farm with regenerative sheep and agroforestry nestled in the foothills of the beautiful Otway Ranges.  This property has been nurtured for 5 generations.

Over the past 20 years, these properties have been creating an ecosystem that fosters a web of wildlife corridors, shelter and shade for stock and sustainable high quality timber production.  They both have established a food forest of native flowers and bush foods.

Otway Eco Tours...

Otway Eco Tours offer fully guided tours in the the Great Otway National Park and also along the Great Ocean Walk.  They offer tours for small groups at a relaxed pace, as well as a brand new Mountain Bike tour for the more adventurous.

Their philosophy is about conservation of the environment through experience and education.  You can experience canoeing on a remote mountain lake to see gorgeous little Platypus in the wild and find out why they are so special.  You can also take a "Walk on the Wild Side" on the Great Ocean Walk to experience the beauty of our rugged coastline, or you can participate in the Mountain Bike tour taking you on some great trails through Forrest.

Bruce Jackson is the tour guide and has been operation tours for over 10 years in the Otways.  He has a degree in Zoology and Botany and has an intimate knowledge of the local environment with many hidden secrets that Otways offer.

Pennyroyal Pet of the Season...

Meet Sage...Isn't she just lovely.  Sage has stayed with us many times and at the age of 10, she has pretty much seen it all, and nothing really rattles her.  Well done Sage, you are our Pennyroyal Pet of the season.

Sage spends "a lot of time" relaxing in front of the fireplace most days and nights when she visits Pennyroyal Farm.  She also loves "cruising" around the yard and watching the goats from the deck...just watching.

Thank you Rae and Cindy for being such loyal guests.  We love having you both and Sage visit and we can not wait till next time.
