How We Make Bayshore Safe Together
Please join us in telling the City of Tampa and Hillsborough County that you won’t let another tragedy happen on Bayshore Blvd. Tell them that it’s time for a safer and greener Bayshore.
What You Can Do Right Now!
I want to Make Bayshore Safe by promptly implementing the following immediate priorities: - Installation of Cross-Walks that Give Pedestrians the Right-of-Way at Each Intersection;
- 25 MPH Speed Limit on Bayshore Blvd; and
- Enforcement of the Speed Limit
through increased and alternative speed monitoring.
I want Zero Fatalities on Bayshore and seek that Bayshore Blvd be specifically included in the Vision Zero Priority Corridors List as well as all planned and future modifications comply with the city’s Complete Streets resolution. I believe Bayshore Is a Park Not a Highway and request a study of pedestrian safety on Bayshore be conducted with public input, including the option of closing traffic lanes and creating public space through public-private partnerships. - I recognize that Tampa’s Pedestrian Safety Issues are Not Isolated to Bayshore; I ask public input be allowed on the new Bay to Bay Blvd design before proposed resurfacing and urge compliance with Vision Zero and Complete Streets best practices for this and all safety concerns identified by the coalition of neighborhood association presidents.
Let Your Voice & Presence Be Heard
Attend the MPO Meeting Tuesday!
The Metropolitan Planning Organization or “MPO” (that determines transportation policy for our communities) and can begin the process to significantly redesign Bayshore as the true linear park it was meant to be. But they won’t do it unless they SEE you. Join us in attending the upcoming meeting of the MPO to show your support for the victims of Bayshore and for the future of our city and environment.
When: Tuesday, June 12, 2018 from 4:00pm-8:30pm (Hearing begins at 6:00pm)
Where: The County Center, 601 East Kennedy Blvd., 2nd Floor
What: A public hearing where all are welcome and where you can speak on transportation matters that are important to you. Speaking is optional, your presence says it all!
IMPORTANT: If you plan to attend, email info@makebayshoresafe.org so we can provide a sign that reads “Make Bayshore Safe” for the hearing
Your emails and your presence are the only way to bring about the Bayshore we all dream of: a safe place for both pedestrians and commuters and a showcase of Tampa’s natural beauty that announces to the world that we value our environment, communities, and future. Only by making our voices heard can we ensure that tragedy ceases on Bayshore.
