Highlight: Managing Science in the Biotech Industry: An Intensive Course for Students and Postdocs


Learn to leverage your analytical PhD skill set!

Thinking about a career in industry?

To help you prepare, The American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) will be hosting the "Managing Science in the Biotech Industry" course this July.

The course will introduce PhD scientists to the competencies they need to thrive in industry and will expose them to the culture and infrastructure of life sciences companies through MBA-style case-based teaching, professional development workshops, and a team-based project. Learn how to conduct research in industry and gain invaluable insight into the way industry views scientific research. International and U.S. applicants are welcome. The course is designed for advanced graduate students with at least three years of scientific research experience and for postdocs.

All 40 students accepted into the program will receive free tuition, housing, meals, and 50% travel support.

Deadline Approaching for the NIH's Clinical and Translational Research Course for PhD Students
The NIH Clinical Center invites graduate students to apply to the Clinical and Translational Research Course for PhD Students, to be held July 6-17 at the NIH main campus in Bethesda, MD. During the two-week intensive course, students will learn the process of clinical and translational research from concept to implementation. This training is offered by the Clinical Center at no cost, but participants are responsible for their travel and lodging. The Impact of Expanding Medicaid: Evidence from the Oregon Health Insurance Experiment
The School of Public Health and Alpert Medical School present the 2015 Paul Levinger Lecture: “The Impact of Expanding Medicaid: Evidence from the Oregon Health Insurance Experiment,” featuring Amy Finkelstein, PhD, Ford Professor of Economics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prof. Finkelstein is one of two principal investigators currently leading the Oregon Health Insurance Experiment, a randomized evaluation of the impact of extending Medicaid coverage to low income, uninsured adults. 21st Century Genetics: Genes at Work
This Cold Spring Harbor Symposium will address '21st Century Genetics: Genes at Work' in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Gregor Mendel’s landmark 1865 presentation of his paper “Experiments on Plant Hybridization”, which laid the groundwork for modern genetics. The Symposium will provide a current synthesis of genetic mechanisms and genome & chromosome biology and include more than sixty outstanding speakers in 12 oral sessions. We are accepting abstracts for consideration as poster presentations to be presented in 2-3 poster sessions throughout the meeting. The Growth Hormone/Prolactin Family in Biology and Disease
