lyndon blue: 2012 Pines review - in rhyme!
How does he do it?
The sun yawned a sunbeam, and calmly ascended
And lo, by the riverbank, many-folk tended
To stages and banners and speakers and cables
and ice-buckets, wristbands and tickets and tables
A party descending on this auditorium
To transform it into a sonic emporium
An event so iconic and keenly awaited,
its legendary stature cannot be debated.

On the morning of the show I was talking to Craig McElhinney on Facebook. He’s always there, ready to talk, ready to say something nice to me, and everyone else on there, and ready to create a little poop storm ..

the long lost brothers
at the bird
Friday, May 4, The Long Lost Brothers launch their album sampler at The Bird. The debut album out later in 2012 is called Wednesday Night Party Club. Long Lost Brothers make cassette melting rock music with enough curly edges to live happily in a succulent garden AND enough hooks to fill a tackle shop.
The Long Lost Brothers have made some Rock music. Just when you thought the music world was either too squeaky clean, always psychedelic or (allegedly) only new when sounding electronic, The Long Lost Brothers rock up with strange pop, poured through guitars. Limited edition copies of the tunes Population and Snakes & Ladders will be available on the night for $10 a pop on CD. Frozen Ocean are main support on the night & Cam Avery - who’ll play solo whilst briefly back from tour with Pond - is also making a rare appearance. What a night. Entry will be $10 from 8pm.

Tribute Night: New work by Patrick Miller
at ok gallery, northbridge
In his first solo exhibition Patrick Miller presents a body of work exploring the multilayered history of light: as a physical force, a cultural phenomenon and a philosophical proposition.
Tribute Night features a series of pieces that sit at the nexus of art and design and science and sentiment, shelves, tables and wall hangings that examine both literal and figurative illumination and reflection. From the proto-scientific alchemists in search of the philosopher's stone to the proliferation of contemporary designers producing countless boutique lamps, each of Miller's elegant, minimal and meticulously handmade objects is a dedication to those that have lit the way and allowed us to take the light home.
EXHIBITION RUNS: 29th March - 29th April, 2012

Bivouac on William Street, is called MILK - an
opaque white fluid secreted by female mammals for
the nourishment of their young.
Skwoz has shared her ‘creatures’ in collaborative
exhibitions at Outskirts, Out to Get Ya, and Windows

Talking Head
at limelite theatre, wanneroo
An award-winning series of solo pieces by a famed British playwright, actor and author is coming to Limelight Theatre this April.
Directed by Gwen Browning, Talking Heads was originally written by Alan Bennett for BBC-TV in 1988 and has since found a new lease of life on stage.
Talking Heads has been described as a classic of contemporary drama, universally hailed for its combination of razor-sharp wit and deeply felt humanity.
The Limelight Theatre production features three monologues:
• Bed Among the Lentils, where a vicar's wife discovers some semblance of happiness with an Indian shop owner.
• A Chip in the Sugar, focusing on a man's life that begins to unravel when he discovers his aging mother has rekindled an old flame.
• Her Big Chance, exploring what happens when a young, naive actress gains a part in a German film – which is not quite what she thought.
Talking Heads plays at 8pm, April 26, 27 and 28. Tickets are $19 adults, $16 concession.
Book on 9467 9545 between 9am and midday, Monday to Friday, or online HERE. Limelight Theatre is located on Civic Drive, Wanneroo.

Try Hard presented by STEPS Youth Dance Company
at heath ledger theatre
TRY HARD is STEPS Youth Dance Company’s major production for 2012. Drawing from research gathered in 2011 from young people all over Western Australia, TRY HARD promises to be the most honest production the company has ever created, resulting in a bold and confronting new work about motivation, apathy, influence and independence.
This original 60 minute work will be brought to life by 48 young dancers age 7-22, and combine dance, theatre and Parkour under the guidance of choreographers Alice Lee Holland (STEPS Artistic Director), Adam Wheeler (Melbourne), Shona Erskine (Perth), Developing Artist Eve Newton-Johnson and John Bourne (Parkour).
Parkour is a challenging new discipline for our company members. Originating in France, it is a spirit and philosophy that incorporates a skilful method of moving with agility, speed and efficiency within your environment - boldly approaching obstacles of any kind, be they physical or mental. Get ready for a thrilling amalgam of vaulting, running, climbing, jumping and more!
TRY HARD will be STEPS’ first season of performance at the Heath Ledger Theatre at the State Theatre Centre of WA.
