CEO Maurice Jones Shares Audacious Goals for LISC

Before a national gathering of community development partners, philanthropic and corporate leaders and policymakers, LISC’s CEO Maurice Jones called for a focus on living-wage jobs to help improve the lives of low-income families. This is a time to forge more partnerships and ramp up expectations for our work and the communities we serve, he said. Wyman Winston, WHEDA, and Ashanti Hamilton, Milwaukee Common Council President joined LISC Executive Director Donsia Strong Hill and other staff at the Houston event.  Learn more about the new CEO's vision for LISC.  



Strategy Session Focuses on Creating Thriving Commercial Hubs in Neighborhoods

On December 7th, LISC and Greater Milwaukee Committee hosted a strategic action session attended by economic partners, neighborhood leadership for a day of facilitation and planning to create a vetted road map for replicating Detroit’s Motor City Match in true Milwaukee fashion. Our own Brew City Match is designed to align with the MKE United Initiative which seeks to create thriving commercial hubs that provide supports for creating neighborhood wealth and self-determination. Latest ACRE class to receive training for main street projects in Milwaukee neighborhoods

2016-2017 ACRE Class

Twenty new students were recently announced for ACRE’s 26 week program designed to expand the representation of minorities in commercial real estate, property management, and construction management in Milwaukee. The program is administered by Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) in partnership with the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), Marquette University College of Business, and the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee School of Architecture & Urban Planning. Clilck here for a class list. 

ACRE is an innovative program, which provides students with the necessary tools and networks to be successful in the industry. ACRE was recently featured through cover stories in the Milwaukee Business Journal and Biz Times Media

In an effort to bring more activity to commercial corridors in Milwaukee neighborhoods like Sherman Park and Clarke Square, LISC Milwaukee is preparing a new generation of developers to lead projects there.

LISC has partnered with the city to bring more attention to six commercial corridors.A part of this strategy includes a greater emphasis on small-scale commercial and mixed-use projects in this year’s classes in the Associates in Commercial Real Estate, or ACRE training program. Outstanding Work in Community Development Recognized as MANDI 2017 Finalists are Announced

Presented by US Bank, The Milwaukee Awards for Neighborhood Development Innovation (known as the MANDIs) celebrate the “good news” of successful efforts to revitalize neighborhoods and strengthen the community.Fifteen finalists were announced at a public event at Mr. J’s Lounge on Milwaukee’s north side to an audience of community leaders. The “Wells Fargo People’s Choice Award” will be given to finalists who receive the most public votes between March 27-April 5, and the Awards will be held April 6th. Watch for details! #MANDI17

Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro visited Milwaukee to discuss economic opportunity and mobility with civic leaders. LISC was pleased to participate with Ellen Gilligan, Greater Milwaukee Foundation, Julia Taylor, Greater Milwaukee Committee, and other Milwaukee leaders. 



New Lender Hired for LISC Milwaukee

New Lending Officer, Francisco Bravo

A Chicago native, Francisco Bravo has made Milwaukee home for 10 years. He earned his BA in Political Science from Marquette University and has a diverse background is in public policy, business analytics, underwriting and finance. His commitment to revitalizing low-income communities was solidified working on various projects in Milwaukee’s District Attorney’s Office and Wisconsin's 4th Congressional District Office. Through subsequent roles in mortgage resolution, business development and commercial banking, he developed expertise building private/public partnerships around housing and catalytic revitalization initiatives. LISC was an obvious next step.

Francisco enjoys giving back through his current involvement as Vice President of the Marquette University Young Alumni Association, the coordinator for the Mexican Fiesta Run & Walk for Diabetes, on the Near West Side Partners Commercial Corridor Development Team and as a mentor and volunteer for various youth programs.

68th Crime Prevention Awards honor community and law enforcement

The 68th Annual Crime Prevention Awards honor the tremendous efforts of community and law enforcement in Milwaukee County. Please join us to celebrate award outstanding programs and acts of heroism to support safe and vital communities.  The luncheon will be held Wednesday, February 1, 11:30 to 1:30 PM at the Wisconsin Club. The event is free but advanced registration by Friday, January 27th is required. Click here to register. 



LISC Staff Updates

Chris Boston was Recognized for contributions over the last 7 Years

After 7 years of service as the Director of Sustainable Communities, Christopher Boston is leaving LISC to focus on his pastorial work at Lamb of God Missionary Baptist Church. We wish him well and know he will continue to provide strong leadership for our community in the future. Amelia Pena, Administrative Assistant, was promoted to Office Manager.
