We know it’s very belated but we would like to wish you and your pets a very happy and very healthy 2020!
We had an incredible December at Scampers and making sure the store was totally restocked and looking gorgeous has taken a monumental effort from our lovely team who worked tirelessly over the last few weeks, which, judging by most of our recent reviews, you have loved too.
New Year’s Resolutions…
Now the festive season has finished and New Year’s Resolutions are done for ourselves, it is a great time to take a good look at our dogs and cats and decide whether maybe we need to look at their Christmas ‘spread’ (waists) and make resolutions for them. Maybe we loved them too much with one too many treats!
A recent study stated that 50% of Britain’s dogs and cats are overweight which is a terrible statistic, especially when it can often be very simple to get our pets in top condition. In most cases there is no reason to visit your vet for weight loss issues unless there is an underlying veterinary condition, and in our view certainly no need to use over priced low quality “prescription” diets.
Quite simply, all we need to do is adjust food and treats and therefore the calorie intake while increasing exercise until we find the right balance of the right food for our dogs and cats to start to lose weight, we love doing this for clients every day of the week. If you would like help in working out a weight loss programme for your dogs or cats please bring your pets into Scampers where we will first of all weigh them (weigh your cats at home) and work with
you to design a reduction programme and share ideas to help make this a success.
Giving our pets our love does not always come out of a packet:-)
Aches and pains…
The winter months can be very tough on older dogs as any joint and stiffness problems tend to be worse on these cold damp days. Our own four-year-old crossbreed rescue ‘Sardine’ was diagnosed around a year ago with hip dysplasia and chronic arthritis and she was prescribed an NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug) for life. When 'Sardines' troubles started to really show themselves, we threw the kitchen sink of natural remedies at her including acupuncture, Diet Dog joints and bones, Diet Dog senior mobility, a StreamZ magnetic collar, Yumove Advance and just recently, the incredible Golden Paste.
The improvement in 'Sardine' is remarkable and we are delighted to say she now only seems to need her veterinary prescription after particularly strenuous exercise. We love 'Sardine' dearly and want her to be happy and comfortable for many more years to come.
If you would like to learn more about natural pain relief and joint care products in store please ask one of our Pet Care Advisors.
Deli delights…
All of us have loved offering our canine customers samples and taste testers from our new Dog Bowl Deli and all the photos on our Facebook of your dogs having fun at the tasting barrel show they loved it too!
There are taste testers available in store every day but on February 1st and 2nd we are delighted to be welcoming back the owners of Dog Bowl Deli, Jo and Jodie, for a two-day tasting extravaganza. Jo will be bringing loads of new treats and some very special Valentines snacks ready for the 14th to give to the ones you love.
There is nothing wrong with giving treats to our dogs even when on a diet as long as the treats are part of the daily rations and not on top of them. We also have many low calorie options from the deli and other treat departments.
Join the tribe…
And finally, another diary date. Scampers are delighted to be welcoming back the lovely Fatima and Becky from Tribal Pet Foods to show their range of complete foods, treats and tasty sausages on the 15th and 16th February. We have been getting rave reviews since launching Tribal in store so if you would like more info or samples pop in during their promotion weekend.
We look forward to seeing you and your lovely pets in store soon!
Piers, Michelle, Rooster, Sardine and the whole Scampers team
