Common Core Educational Standards will be Discussed at next NCF Tea Party meeting

Have you heard about Common Core? If you have children or grandchildren in school, please plan on attending the North Central Florida Tea Party meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13th! Dr. Karen Effrem will be our guest speaker that night. Dr. Effrem is the president of Education Liberty Watch. She has provided testimony for Congress, as well as in-depth analysis of numerous pieces of major federal education, health, and early childhood legislation for congressional staff, state legislatures, and many organizations. Dr. Effrem serves on the boards of national organizations Education Liberty Watch and the Alliance for Human Research Protection. She has spoken at numerous state and national conferences. She has been interviewed by Fox News and interviewed by or quoted in the Wall Street Journal, the British Medical Journal, National Journal, WorldNetDaily, NewsMax, newspapers, radio and television stations across the country.
Dr. Effrem will be explaining the dangers of Common Core, will give us an update on Common Core legislation in Florida, and will be happy to answer any questions you have. Most importantly she will be telling us what we can do to stop Common Core! We will have handouts that will help you pass this information on to other people.
Please contact your local school board and any teachers that you may know. Invite them to come to the meeting! Invite your family and friends! This is an extremely important topic and we need to educate ourselves on what it means for our educational system. Gun Raffle Sales

This will be our last meeting before the drawing for the gun on July 4, 2013 at the River Reunion in Branford. If you have sold tickets, please bring them to this meeting. We will contact everyone who still has tickets out near the end of June and make arrangements to get the tickets and money from you. Let's all make a final effort to sell as many tickets as possible. This is our big fundraiser for the year and will help us work on several projects that we have in the works.

I know it is short notice but there is a Gun Show in Lake City this Saturday, June 8th. If the weather cooperates, Jewel is going to have a table and will sell tickets. If you can help with this, even for an hour, please let us know at 386-935-0821 or email him at jehiggins@windstream.net

American Patriot Newspaper

We are distributing almost 1,000 copies of the American Patriot Newspaper on a bi-weekly basis. They are currently being distributed in Lake City, Live Oak, Ft. White, and Branford. If you know of any place that might be interested in carrying the paper, please ask them and then let me know at shiggins@windstream.net We have people who will do the distributing, just need a few more places to put them (especially in Lake City).

We will have copies of the last few editions at our meeting on the 13th. I will be posting a list of the places where you can pick a copy up each time in the near future. The last edition had an article on "A Six-Pack of Scandals Could Define and Destroy the Obama Presidency", an article of the "Backlash Against Common Core, also "Does our DHS look like the German SS?" plus many more articles. We have had some great feedback from the public, not only on how pleased they are to have found the newspaper, but many want to get involved and work on fixing some of the problems. The newspaper is a great way to get information out to the average public!

Florida Conservatives Unite On Immigration

Conservative organizations throughout Florida have united in support of securing our borders and are opposed to S. 744, a 1,922 page immigration bill. These massive comprehensive bills/are rarely read, are impossible to manage, have a history of failure and related rules end up being written and interpreted by unelected bureaucrats. These groups agree with a majority of Americans that a secure border should be in place before any other steps are taken. S. 744 merely requires a plan for a secure border. An amendment by Sen Cruz to guarantee a secure border before legalization proceeded was defeated in the judiciary committee. For these reasons, leaders from several conservative groups urge legislators to oppose S. 744. The text of the letter is below:

We urge you to oppose S 744, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act.
We agree our Immigration system is dysfunctional because our government has failed to enforce legislation already on the books.
In 1986, Congress granted amnesty to three million people with the promise of enforcement and border security. Since then the population of illegal immigrants has nearly quadrupled and little has been done to secure the border.
S 744 asks Americans to support a repeat of the 1986 failed amnesty program: the bill will provide amnesty for illegal aliens with only a promise to secure the border.
S 744 gives the Secretary of Homeland Security broad discretion to waive the vast majority of the border security requirements detailed in the bill. Immigration and Customs professionals recently expressed similar concerns in a letter critical of the “virtually unlimited discretion” the bill gives to DHS and going further to conclude that the bill will “be a significant barrier to the creation of a safe and lawful system of immigration.”
The faster you can secure the border, the sooner we can begin to support solutions to an orderly and lawful resolution of those here illegally. We fully support a vibrant and fair immigration program in the United States but we do not support this bill which is not fair and repeats the mistakes of the past.

Who Is The North Central Florida Tea Party?

The North Central Florida Tea Party is a group of citizens who are concerned about where our nation is heading. We are a grassroots, nonpartisan group opposed to wasteful deficit spending and infringement of our natural rights. We do have a well-defined and uniform slate of principles on which we center our advocacy and support for political candidates. These principles include, first and foremost, advocating for Essential Liberty, the restoration of constitutional limits on government and the judiciary, and the promotion of free-enterprise, national defense, and traditional American values.
