Kingswood College Where Potential Soars Kingswood College

Message from the President

On 4 February 1890 Kingswood College (then New College) opened its doors and 125 years later the College is still going strong.  So this year there is plenty to celebrate and I encourage all Wyvernians to get involved!

There will be a number of activities and events over the year to celebrate the 125 year milestone.  A number of great excuses to get together with old class mates, so mark these in your diaries:

14 to 26 April 2015 – Archive exhibition – take a trip down memory lane. The exhibition will feature a wide range of items from our archives including pictures, uniforms, old books and documents and film footage from the early years of the College.

25 July 2015 - 125 year Gala Dinner at Leonda by the Yarra – book a table with a few of your old class mates.

10 October 2015 – Community Carnival with fireworks!

There are lots of other events at the College which are open to all Wyvernians - for the old thespians, musicians and lovers of the arts; we highlight Twilight Jazz on this week and the College production Hairspray.

Be sure to read our online archive on the 125 year history of the College. We’d love to hear from you about your time at the College and would value any photos and stories you can contribute.

Travel, travel, travel! That is the message from one of our featured Wyvernians Kim Noakes from the Class of 2003.  Thank you to Kim for sharing his story.

We also feature Evan Walker from the Class of 1952.  Evan lived a full and involved life.  His father was also the principal of the college (C.F. Walker).  Evan had remained involved and in touch with the College since leaving in 1952 but sadly passed in February 2015.

Other features – the opening of the Sports Centre, 125 year celebration book, and Reunions.

For those that are due for a Reunion this year please book early, ensure your details are up to date and, if you haven’t already, catch us on Facebook or the LinkedIn Group
KingswoodBoxHillWyvernians.

I hope to see many of you around the College this year.  If you would like to contribute in some way please contact me or the College.  It would be great to hear from you.

President Wyvernians

Vale Evan Walker Class of 1952

The Kingswood College Council, Principal, staff and alumni community were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Evan Walker, AO (11 February 1935 – 16 February 2015), an old collegian and highly respected member of the Kingswood College community.

Evan was the fifth child born to Kingswood College’s longest-serving principal Charles Fitzroy (C.F) Walker and his wife Ethel.

Kim Noakes Class of 1997

My name is Kim Noakes. My parents moved me to Kingswood College Junior School in 1990 to join my brother. I commenced Year 5 and stayed through until I graduated from Year 12 in 1997.

What are some of your proudest moments?
Personally

My proudest moment so far was watching my wife give birth to our son Oliver in London. It was almost fairytale-like as her bedside view from the 7th floor of the hospital was over the River Thames looking directly at Big Ben and the gothic architecture of the Houses of Parliament in Westminster. We had moved to London almost a decade earlier as an engaged couple and never thought we would still be there, married and becoming parents away from the place we called home.

Vocationally
My proudest moment by far vocationally was finally landing a job at Canon whilst still living in the UK. I had a solid photographic background (son of a photographer, studied photography after leaving school, worked in a camera store and even represented Canon for an agency) and until then I had done so many jobs I disliked (bordering on ‘hated’), which were extremely demoralising and affected my life at home. To finally land a job in the company I had dreamt about working for gave me an entirely new lease on life.
