CPC Celebrates the Mid-Autumn Festival with Community Members The Mid-Autumn Festival is a cherished occasion for family reunions and festivities, celebrated not only by Chinese and Vietnamese but also by various other Asian communities. Across all our sites and centers, CPC hosted a range of activities including dim sum brunches, lantern-making workshops, and mooncake giveaways. We extend our deepest gratitude to our generous donors, supporters, and partners whose contributions were instrumental in making this festival a truly extraordinary event for our community members. CPC and JPMorgan Chase Deliver 100 Backpacks Filled with School Supplies On September 6th, the CPC Queens team partnered with JPMorgan Chase to distribute backpacks filled with school supplies to special-needs families. This initiative aimed to alleviate the financial challenges faced by these families.

State Senator Kavanagh Joins CPC Open Door Senior Center's Table Tennis Awards Ceremony On September 6th, CPC Open Door Senior Center hosted the 13th Table Tennis Awards Ceremony. New York State Senator Brian Kavanagh joined the festivities and engaged in friendly matches with the winners. This ceremony concluded a week of competition.
CPC Nan Shan Showcases Sustainable 'Year of the Rabbit' Exhibition On September 22nd, the CPC Nan Shan Older Adult Center arts and crafts program held an exhibition to showcase their latest project. The theme was "Year of the Rabbit.” To promote sustainability, most of the materials used were recycled items.
CPC FAIR Meets with Council Member Ung to Discuss Supports for Community Members with Special Needs On September 15th, parents from the CPC Families Advocating for Individual Rights initiative (CPC FAIR) met with Council Member Sandra Ung to discuss how to support Chinese immigrant families who have members with special needs.
Samuels Foundation Grant Supports Older Adult Wellness and Safe Housing at CPC CPC was awarded a $190,000 grant from The Fax Fox and Leslie R. Samuels Foundation to provide resources and community programming for over 300 residents at Hong Ning Housing and Norfolk Senior Housing. CPC Celebrates Governor Hochul's Declaration of Lunar New Year as Statewide School Holiday On September 9th, CPC's President & CEO, Wayne Ho, and Director of Childhood Development Services, Mary Cheng, joined elected officials and community leaders as Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation to make Lunar New Year a statewide school holiday. This achievement is the result of years of advocacy.
Advocacy Manager Frances Huang Receives the UNH Trailblazer Award On September 26th, CPC celebrated with Frances Huang, Advocacy Manager, who was honored with the inaugural UNH Trailblazer Award at the United Neighborhood Houses (UNH) gala. The award recognizes their outstanding efforts, going above and beyond to engage in extraordinary work that addresses ongoing community issues. The event also provided a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with settlement house colleagues, government allies, and community supporters.
CPC Brooklyn Community Services Hosts the 13th Annual Health and Family Resource Fair On September 16th, CPC Brooklyn Community Services brought together over 1,000 community members of all ages at Leif Ericson Park for the 13th Annual Health and Family Resource Fair. The event featured cultural performances and offered health services and family resources, including screenings, flu vaccinations, and more.
CPC Co-Presents "The Cost of Living," A New Documentary About Poverty in Flushing On September 27th, the Undo Poverty: Flushing collaborative and media agency F.Y. Eye presented "The Cost of Living," a new documentary film by Helena and Daniel Nalladurai (Sixty First Productions). This film offers a unique, intimate perspective into the lives of three individuals and families who call the greater Flushing, Queens area their home as they navigate the turbulent waters of economic hardship and are confronted with the ever-increasing cost of living in their once-affordable neighborhood.
