PUSH Breaks Ground on MASH Project

Earlier this month, People United for Sustainable Housing (PUSH) broke ground on its latest housing development project , Massachusetts Avenue Sustainable Homes (MASH).  The project involves the development of five high quality affordable rental apartments within PUSH’s Green Development Zone (GDZ) on the West Side of Buffalo.

The project will preserve and transform two long vacant historic homes and build a new home on a large vacant lot.

The project aligns with Buffalo LISC’s Building Sustainable Communities Initiative and will not only create sustainable, affordable housing, but neighborhood employment as well.

Buffalo LISC Spotlight: Heart of the City Neighborhoods

Heart of the City Neighborhoods is a local non-profit that is dedicated to supporting housing and neighborhood development on Buffalo’s Lower West Side.

Since being founded in 1998, HOCN’s rehabilitation efforts represent over $2 million of development invested in the Lower West Side neighborhood. Between 1998 and 2013, HOCN coordinated 61 units of minor home repair, renovated 19 vacant units and one 6-unit rental property, and constructed 8 rental units.

Working together with residents and neighborhood organizations, local leaders, financial institutions and real estate professionals, HOCN works to stabilize and create integrated, mixed income neighborhoods where individuals and families of all incomes will have a better quality of life and take pride in their property, their street, and their community.
