Graduate Students' Association Meeting of the Minds Conference

Faculty, post-doctoral fellows and graduate students are needed as volunteers for the peer-review process of the Graduate Students' Association Meeting of the Minds Conference, being held this March.

There is also a call for abstracts for the Conference. Students from all disciplines and all levels of study are encouraged to apply. More

E-Thesis Submission

You are encouraged to review the revised thesis format regulations in the Policies & Procedures manuals.

E-thesis submission procedures for submitting a PDF copy of the final thesis document are available on the SGS website.

Questions regarding the e-thesis system should be directed to sgs@uleth.ca.

 

GSA Logo Competition

The Graduate Students' Association is looking for a new logo and they need your help! Staff, students and faculty are eligible to enter this competition. More.

The deadline for submissions is Feb 25.

New Grad Student Lounge

Grad students are able to use the Grad Student Lounge  for studying, storing food, making tea or coffee, playing foosball, having group meetings, and more! 

Booking: Email the GSA or visit during their office hours.

Using the space: If you would like to use the space, please visit the GSA office in M2041 to receive the access code. As this is a grad student space only, please bring your student ID!

International Dinner tickets now available

The 22nd Annual International Dinner will be held on February 26. This year's theme is "From Cosmos to Canada: Visiting 7 Continents Making Science Documentaries" with guest speaker Geoff Haines-Stiles, senior producer and director for Carl Sagan’s classic PBS series, COSMOS.

Course Changes

Students in the MA, MFA, MMus, MSc, and PhD programs are no longer required to use the Request for Course Change form to make changes to the Approved Program of Study form.

All course additions and deletions must be discussed with and approved by the Supervisor prior to registration.

Any changes to the Approved Program of Study form must be included in your next Progress & Standing report presented to Supervisory Committee Members and appear on the signed Progress & Standing form that is submitted to SGS.

 

Controlling Sexuality and Reproduction 2015 Conference

Call for Papers

This conference is to be held Aug 12-14, 2015 at the UofL. It will explore and challenge historical and current efforts to control certain kinds of sex and reproduction, and will examine what kinds of ‘normal’ values are being upheld.

250 word abstracts for single papers or individual presentations, and 500 words for panels should be submitted by midnight, February 15, 2015. More

 

2015 Canadian Student Health Research Forum

June 2 - 4, 2015

This is an opportunity for health research trainees in all fields at the doctoral level from across Canada to present their work, to network and be recognized for the excellence of their contributions. More

 

Three Minute Thesis (3MT)

Imagine trying to condense years of complex research and fieldwork into one-slide and a three-minute thesis. That’s the challenge (and opportunity) presented to graduate students in the Three Minute Thesis (3MT), an exciting academic competition that assists current graduate students with fostering effective presentation and communication skills.

Distinguished Dissertation Awards 

See the CAGS website for nomination criteria, process and checklist.

Eligibility: PhD students who successfully defended their thesis and were approved by the Dean, SGS from Jan - Dec, 2014.

Nomination packages should  include:

  • A letter from the student’s Supervisor or program director describing the reasons for the nomination and why the dissertation constitutes a significant piece of original work.
  • Nominee’s current email address
  • External’s current email address.

AIHS Trainee Information Session

Alberta Innovates – Health Solutions (AIHS) will be holding an information session on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 to provide information about submitting a Graduate Studentship, Clinician Fellowship or MD-PhD Studentship application to AIHS for training support.
