Papanui-Innes community update - 9 June 2020

Christchurch City Council

Greetings from your Community Board

Message from the Chair

Kia ora everyone,
Last week we resumed our regular Community Board meetings. It was good to see everyone in person and discuss the needs of our community and ratepayers. We live-streamed our meeting on Facebook and you can watch it here. Council has now approved a revised Draft Annual Plan 2020–21 that takes into consideration the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on our community. Consultation will open from Friday 12 June and I encourage you all to take part.
June also marks the start of Matariki, a time to gather with family and friends to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and plan for the future. I'm looking forward to seeing all the wonderful online activities shared by our libraries to celebrate this special time of year. Keep being kind and look after one another. Kia kaha.

Chair of the Community Board

Board Chair, Emma Norrish

Highlights from our latest meeting

Our Community Board met on Friday 5 June. Some highlights of our meeting included approving funding for a number of important community group projects from our Discretionary Response Fund, including the Papanui Toy Library, Shirley Ladies Friendship Club, Bowls Papanui and the St Albans Shirley Football Club.  You can read more about community funding here.
The Board also approved recommendations for lane marking changes on Langdons Road, including new right-turn bays from Langdons Road into the new along the frontage of the new Northlink Shopping Centre and no stopping lines on the north side of Langdons Road.
We also agreed on plans to remove redundant Metro bus stops on Philpotts Road between Innes Road and Queen Elizabeth II Drive that are no longer serviced by the Orbiter bus route.
You can read the minutes to see what else we discussed and find out the dates, times and details of upcoming Community Board and Council meetings here.

Community board funding helps Juliet's dream come true

Juliet McLachlan says travelling to Santiago, Chile and competing at the Cadet, Junior, and U21 World Karate Championships in 2019 has been "hands-down one of the most incredible experiences of my life." Juliet received funding from the Papanui-Innes Community Board towards the cost of attending the championships. Juliet says "I greatly appreciate that the community board makes these grants available to others like me, giving us the opportunity to compete/travel internationally with the support of our community."
