Some highlights of our meeting included approving funding for a number of important community group projects from our Discretionary Response Fund, including the Papanui Toy Library, Shirley Ladies Friendship Club, Bowls Papanui and the St Albans Shirley Football Club. Council adopts new Draft Annual PlanChristchurch City Council has approved a new draft budget that takes into account the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the organisation and on ratepayers. The revised Draft Annual Plan 2020–21 proposes an average residential rate rise of 2.23 per cent, which is an overall average rate increase of 3.5 per cent. Community board funding helps Juliet's dream come trueJuliet McLachlan says travelling to Santiago, Chile and competing at the Cadet, Junior, and U21 World Karate Championships in 2019 has been "hands-down one of the most incredible experiences of my life." Juliet received funding from the Papanui-Innes Community Board towards the cost of attending the championships. Juliet says "I greatly appreciate that the community board makes these grants available to others like me, giving us the opportunity to compete/travel internationally with the support of our community." Libraries issue call to return overdue booksMore than 120,000 books are back on Christchurch City Libraries shelves. However, a significant number of the loans prior to the lockdown period remain outstanding. Customers are being asked to check around their homes for any books or other library items that may have been forgotten while our libraries have been closed to the public, and to return these items by 15 June to avoid any fines.
